Second-half strike sinks Peacocks against Blue Tigers

Senior Nymark-Pedersen recorded five saves in the 1-0 loss on Wednesday

FAYETTE, Iowa. - Upper Iowa (0-4-2, 0-3-0 GLVC) fell, 1-0, to Lincoln (Mo.) (3-0-2, 2-0-1 GLVC) on Wednesday. Goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen posted five saves, three in the first half and two in the second. 

Both teams battled back-and-forth in the first half. The Peacocks posted five shots, as the Blue Tigers posted seven. LU took seven corner kicks, as UIU took one. 

The game remained scoreless until the 67th minute of the game, when forward Makwe Nkoana netted a goal. Midfielder Jerome Lawel assisted him on the goal. 

Defender Arnas Kurakinas put a shot on frame a minute later; however, goalkeeper Felipe Mattos turned it away. UIU created two more chances in the final 12 minutes, but Lincoln secured the 1-0 victory.

Nymark-Pedersen totaled five saves. Kurakinas, forward Nahum Ghyslain Wellot Samba and forward Sebastian Camargo each took a shot on goal. Defender Quirin Elias Haimmerer notched two shots, while midfielder Matas Dumalakas notched two shots, with one on goal. 

Defender Carl Wilhelmsson, Haimmerer, Nymark-Pedersen and Kurakinas all played 90 minutes. Defender Rayan Lafon was in the contest for 89 minutes. 

The game was a physical one as there were a total of 29 fouls. UIU fouled 12 times, while LU fouled 17 times. Lincoln recorded two yellow cards. 

The Peacocks posted 10 shots, with five on goal, and the Blue Tigers posted 15 shots, with six on goal. In total, there were 14 corner kicks taken, three by Upper Iowa and 11 by Lincoln. 

Upper Iowa hits the road to face William Jewell (Mo.) (1-5, 0-3 GLVC) on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12 p.m. The Cardinals beat Harding (Ark.) (0-5), 2-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
