Upper Iowa women’s golf finishes eighth at Maverick Fall Brawl

Weber ties for 23rd to lead Peacocks at the season-opening tournament

HUDSON, Wis. - Upper Iowa women's golf started the 2026-27 season with an eighth-place finish at the Minnesota State Maverick Fall Brawl. Addison Weber led the Peacocks, tying for 23rd place after shooting 162 (+20). 

Weber had the best individual round of any Peacock golfer with a 79 (+8) on Tuesday that featured 11 pars. The junior moved up four spots from her 83 (+12) on Monday. Weber tied for the seventh-most pars by any golfer with 20 total.

Fern Babinski shot the best round for the team on Monday with an 81 (+10). She posted an 83 (+12) on Tuesday for a total of 164 (+22) to tie for 29th. Babinski tallied 18 pars, tying for the 15th most in the tournament. 

Morgan Krall debuted for Upper Iowa by tying for 39th with a score of 168 (+26), improving by two strokes on Tuesday with an 83 (+12). Her round was highlighted by an eagle on hole 12, which was her second-to-last hole of the day. She recorded a team-high two birdies.

Fabiana Barrero Campo's 170 (+28) to tie for 43rd was highlighted by a hole-in-one in round one on hole three. She was the only player at the tournament to hit a hole-in-one. She shot 83 (+12) in the first round and 87 (+16) in the second round with a birdie on her final hole of the tournament.

Kathryn Ballard placed 65th with a total of 183 (+41). She knocked in a birdie on hole 13 in the first round. 

Upper Iowa shot 332 (+48) as a team both days for a total of 664 (+96). The Peacocks were 16 strokes behind Southwest Minnesota State in seventh and seven strokes ahead of UMary (N.D.) in ninth. 

Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) won the tournament at its home course with a score of 622 (+54). The Golden Bears shot 299 (+15) as a team on the second day for the best round of the tournament. CSP's Ella Matzke and Addi Wood tied for first at 150 (+8), with Matzke winning the tiebreaker. 

Wisconsin-Stout took second, shooting 625 (+57), and Minnesota State placed third with a score of 631 (+63). Minnesota State's Emerson Garlie placed third after shooting 151 (+9). Matzke and Garlie had the best individual rounds of any golfer with 72s (+1) on day two.

The Peacocks are back in action next week for the Concordia-St. Paul Jewel Invitational. Action takes place at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minnesota, on Sept. 21-22.
