FAYETTE, Iowa - UIU (0-3-2, 0-3-0 GLVC) men's soccer succumbs to McKendree (Ill.) (2-3-0, 1-1-0 GLVC), 5-0, on Saturday. Midfielder Santino Tapia Jr. records his first shot on goal of the season.
The Bearcats scored three goals during the first half. The first goal was netted during the 16th minute by midfielder Alexis Insfran, and the second goal was netted nearly two minutes later by forward Fredrik Thulin. The third and final goal of the half was netted during the 39th minute by defender Dylan Gloviak.
Tapia Jr. attempted a goal during the 75th minute for UIU, but was unable to capitalize as his shot was saved by goalkeeper Filip Borka. McKendree added two more goals during the 84th and 90th minutes of the game, winning 5-0. The goals were netted by Thulin and midfielder Ethan Norkaitis.
Tapia Jr. took the Peacocks' only shot on goal. Goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen posted four saves. Nymark-Pedersen and defender Quirin Elias Haimmerer each played 90 minutes.
Thulin totaled four shots with two on goal, two goals and two assists for the Bearcats. Goloviak had a shot on goal, a goal and an assist. Norkaitis netted two shots on goal and a goal.
McKendree controlled the game offensively, outshooting the Peacocks 18-1. McKendree mustered nine shots on goal, compared to UIU's one. The Bearcats led the Peacocks in corner kicks, 7-2.
Upper Iowa recorded 17 fouls and a yellow card. The Bearcats totaled 15 fouls and three yellow cards.
Tapia Jr. took UIU's only shot on goal. Goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen posted four saves. Nymark-Pedersen and defender Quirin Elias Haimmerer each played 90 minutes.
Thulin totaled four shots with two on goal, two goals and two assists for McKendree. Goloviak had a shot on goal, a goal and an assist. Norkaitis netted two shots on goal and a goal.
The Peacocks stay home to compete against Lincoln (Mo.) (1-0-2, 0-0-1 GLVC) on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 2:30 p.m. UIU then travels to Liberty, Missouri, to square up with William Jewell (Mo.) (0-5, 0-3 GLVC) on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 12 p.m.
