Nagy puts in first goal of the season in 1-1 men’s soccer draw

Peacocks start season with 1-1 tie at Roosevelt

FAYETTE, Iowa - The Peacocks men's soccer team (0-0-1) drew with Roosevelt (Ill.) (0-0-1) to start the Jeancy Matumona-Bau era on Thursday, with junior Timur Nagy scoring the team's lone goal. RU scored late in the second half to knot the final score at 1-1 apiece. 

Upper Iowa struck first, as Nagy netted a goal off a penalty kick that occurred during the 18th minute of the first half. The Lakers responded by scoring a goal of their own during the 77th minute of the game. The goal was scored by Fynn Mewes through the lower right side of the goal. He was assisted by Alexander Panduro. 

Jannik Schlegel and Benjamin Wendel both took shots for Upper Iowa at the end of the game, but RU halted both. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. 

Upper Iowa had eight shots, all on goal, and had four players play 90 minutes: goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen, Carl Wihelmsson, Arnas Kurakinas and Matas Dumalakas. Roosevelt recorded 18 shots, three shots on goal, and had five players play 90 minutes. RU totaled nine corner kicks compared to UIU's two. There were a total of 26 shots in the game, with 18 coming from Roosevelt and eight from Upper Iowa.  

Nagy led the Peacocks with three shots, a shot on goal and a goal. Schlegel posted a shot and a shot on goal. Quirin Elias Haimmerer had one shot, one goal. Nymark-Pedersen had two saves. 

Mewes totaled four shots for the Lakers, with three on goal and one goal. Paduro posted four shots with an assist. 

Men's soccer continues its season campaign against Viterbo (Wis.) on Sunday. Upper Iowa then heads on the road in contests with Missouri S&T (1-0) on Sept. 4 and Missouri St. Louis (1-0) on Sept. 9.
