LA CROSSE, Wis - Upper Iowa (0-0-2) drew, 0-0, with Viterbo (Wis.) (0-1-2) in a physical game on Sunday. Noah Nymark-Pedersen recorded seven saves in the net for the Peacocks.
Arnas Kurakinas took the first shot of the game during the 15th minute. The V-Hawks responded two minutes later with a shot from Alvaro Iglesias. Viterbo took three more shots in the half, with Nymark-Pedersen saving the last two.
Jannick Schlegel opened the second half with a shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the game. There was an 11-minute stretch from the 55th to the 66th minute during which Nahum Ghyslain Wellot Samba took three shots on goal. The Peacocks grinded through the last 23 minutes with 10 players due to a red card in the 67th minute.
Viterbo had two chances to win the game during those final 23 minutes. The first came off a shot by Fernando Celeman in the 86th minute, but Nymark-Pedersen was able to save it. The second shot came off a shot by Andrii Ketusk, who missed a shot during the 88th minute.
Nymark-Pedersen posted a total of seven saves, with two of his saves occurring in the first half and five occurring in the second half. Three of his saves came during the final 11 minutes of the game. Nymark-Pedersen, Kurakinas and Rayan Lafon all played 90 minutes.
Wellot Samba recorded three shots on goal, while Schlegel recorded one. Kurakinas, Carl Wihelmsson and Santio Tapia Jr all mustered a shot.
Iglesias and Jokubas Jancauskas shot the ball on goal twice. Alexis Da Ponte had four saves at goalkeeper for the V-Hawks.
The Peacocks posted four shots on goal out of seven shots, while the V-Hawks posted seven shots on goal out of 14 shots. The game was physical, with a total of nine yellow cards between both teams. Today's draw already ties last year's total number of ties on the season for UIU.
Upper Iowa's next two games are GLVC matchups on the road. The first is against Missouri S&T (2-0) on Friday, Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m., and the second is against Missouri-St. Louis (1-0) on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m.
