FAYETTE, Iowa - Peacock softball (5-31, 0-12 GLVC) lost twice to Drury (Mo.) (17-22, 7-9 GLVC) on Friday. UIU fell to DU in the first game, 9-0, and in the second game, 6-1.Â
Dani Laughlin went 3-for-6 (.500) at the plate, batting 3-for-3 in the second game. Kaitlin Foral finished the day with two hits. Cara Farnam had seven strikeouts, and Sara Reid had six strikeouts on the mound.Â
Upper Iowa continues its home stretch by facing Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (15-25, 4-10 GLVC) in a doubleheader on Saturday. The games are at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.Â
Game One: Drury 9, Upper Iowa 0
Landry Cochran tripled to right center field to start the first inning. She was later brought home after a Peacock throwing error, giving the Panthers an early 1-0 lead. Drury later added another run in inning off a sacrifice fly by Isabel Ervin.Â
DU scored three runs in the second inning, increasing its advantage to 5-0.The first two runs were scored off a Cochran single to the left side of the field and the third run was scored off a Kaley Adzick single to shortstop.Â
UIU created some momentum during the third and fourth innings, but was unable to capitalize. Farnam drew a walk, while Elliott Pomeroy doubled to center field, putting runners in scoring position before the next three batters struck out.
In the fourth inning with two outs, Dorothy Ziebell and Addyson Alber each singled to third base. However, the inning ended when Reid struck out.Â
The Peacocks played great defense through the following two innings, however the Panthers ripped off four runs in the seventh to secure the 9-0 victory. Reece Anderson doubled and Madi Divis singled for the first two runs, while Cochran doubled and Adzick singled for the last two runs.Â
Pomeroy posted a hit with a double, while Ziebell and Alber each posted a hit for a single. Jescie Comstock and Farnam each walked once. Farnam also pitched five innings on the mound, allowing three earned runs on six hits and a walk. The junior also recorded seven strikeouts.
Upper Iowa ended the game with three hits, two walks, three errors and left six runners on base. Drury totaled 14 hits, nine RBIs, four walks, an error and left 11 runners on base.Â
Game Two: Drury 6, Upper Iowa 1
The Peacocks struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Reagon Proud walked to start the game, before later being brought home by a Foral right field single.Â
The Panthers poured on two runs in the second inning and a run in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 advantage. Divis drove home the two runs in the second off a right field single. She connected for a sacrifice fly to score the run in the fourth.Â
After each team battled back-and-forth through the fifth and sixth inning, DU added three runs in the seventh to beat UIU, 6-1. The first two runs were scored off a Petersen double, while the third run was scored off a Ervin single.Â
Proud had a run and a walk. Laughlin recorded three hits, while Foral finished with two hits and an RBI. Reid threw for seven innings, giving up six earned runs on 11 hits and a walk. She also struck out six batters.Â
The Peacocks posted five hits, an RBI, two walks and left three runners on base. The Panthers had 11 hits, six RBIs, two errors, a walk and left seven runners on base.
