LIBERTY, Mo. - Peacock softball (5-27, 0-8 GLVC) fell to William Jewell (Mo.) (13-19, 4-6 GLVC) in a doubleheader on Saturday. Upper Iowa lost 7-0 in the first contest and 7-4 in the second contest.
Taylor Hamaker had two hits, leading to the first home run of her Peacock career, along with a double. She also totaled an RBI and scored a run. Addyson Alber had two hits with two doubles, an RBI and scored a run. Reagan Proud posted two hits with two doubles, while scoring a run.
The Peacocks play at Rockhurst (Mo.) (15-14, 3-7 GLVC) tomorrow at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. RU dropped both games of a doubleheader to Lewis (Ill.) (15-11, 5-1 GLVC) on Saturday. Â
Game One: William Jewell 7, Upper Iowa 0
UIU started the first inning with momentum. Hamaker was the first Peacock to reach base after connecting for a right field double. Jescie Comstock then followed her with a walk.Â
Later, Cara Farnam singled to right field to load the bases. However, Mya Mendoza struck out, leaving all three runners on base.Â
WJC took a 3-0 lead in the second. Sheyenne Kelch drove home Tori Woodard and Jane after hitting a left-line double for the first two runs. Avery Webster then brought home Kelch for the third run off a single up the middle.Â
William Jewell added four insurance runs in the fifth, winning 7-0. Reagan Bennett homered to left field, allowing Amanda Chung to also score for the first two runs. Woodard later singled up to right center field, before being brought home by Emma Ogle for the last two runs.Â
Proud, Hamaker and Alber each connected for doubles. Farnam recorded a single, while Comstock recorded a walk. Mara Sivley pitched six innings, giving up six earned runs on 11 hits and a walk. The freshman also had five strikeouts.Â
UIU had four hits, a walk, an error and left seven runners on base. WJC totaled 11 hits, seven RBIs, a walk, an error and left six runners on base.Â
Game Two: William Jewell 7, Upper Iowa 4Â
Hamaker hit a lead-off home run to left field on the first at-bat of the game to give the Peacocks the early lead. Proud then connected for a double towards deep left field. She later scored another run to take a 2-0 advantage after Dorothy Ziebell hit a single up the middle.Â
The Cardinals started the third inning walking in their first two appearance at the plate, before recording two outs on the next two appearances. Reagan Bennett later singled up the middle to load the bases. Ziebell then walked Woodard, allowing WJC to score its first run. Â
Upper Iowa scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Ziebell hit a left field single and was later brought home by an Alber double. Ella Perkins then singled down the left field line, scoring Alber for the second run.Â
William Jewell took a 5-1 lead after scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning. The runs came off singles by Mikayla Chairez, Chung, and Bennett. The Cardinals won 7-2 after adding two runs in the fifth inning off a single by Webster; the second came after UIU threw to second base to catch the runner stealing, allowing the runner at third to cross home plate.
Hamaker had a hit for her first home run of the season and scored a run. Ella Perkins posted a hit and an RBI. Alber had a hit, an RBI and scored a run.Â
Ziebell recorded two hits, an RBI, and scored a run. The Austin, Texas native was also on the mound for the four innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and five walks. She added three strikeouts.
The Peacocks posted four hits, four RBIs, two errors and left two runners on base. The Cardinals collected nine hits, six RBIs, six walks, an error and left seven runners on base.Â
