FAYETTE, Iowa - Peacock women's wrestling competes in its final meet of the regular season this weekend. The team wrestles in the Grand View Open on Saturday at 9 a.m.
ABOUT THE OPEN
There are 56 teams from nearly every corner of the United States, including California, Texas, Illinois and New York. Some of the NCAA top 25 tournament teams in The Open Mat rankings are there. No. 1 Iowa, No. 2 McKendree (Ill.), No. 3 Grand Valley State (Mich.), No. 9 Wartburg, No. 11 Quincy, No. 13 Fort Hayes State and No. 19 Simpson will all compete at the Grand View Open.
The meet will take place in Des Moines, starting at 9 a.m. in the Grand View Johnson Wellness Center & Sisam Arena. Fans can follow along with Live Scoring in the link attached to this story.
LAST TIME OUT
Last Thursday, Upper Iowa hosted its first home meet, the UIU Triangular, featuring Morningside and Luther. The Peacocks beat the Mustangs, 24-15, and the Norse, 21-20.
Kylee Shoop (131) and Eliana Callies (160) both went 2-0 on the night. Shoop recorded a fall at 3:31 against Kelsie Krivohlek of Morningside and a 13-0 technical fall over Lexi Timmerman of Luther. The freshman also secured the tiebreaking point against the Norse with a four-point throw to meet the criteria that gave UIU the win.
Callies won her first match after pinning pinning Baylie Wehmeyer of the Mustangs at 1:55. She won her second match after pinning Grace Rinehardt of Luther at 1:38.
GLVC WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Shoop earned GLVC Wrestler of the Week honors after her performance at the UIU Triangular. She joined teammate Mya Mendoza as the other Peacock to earn the honor this season.
UP NEXT
UIU starts postseason competition on Feb. 21 in the NCAA Region V Championships. The championship takes place in Indianola.
