INDIANAPOLIS - Kylee Shoop was awarded the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Women's Wrestler of the Week award on Wednesday. She is the second women's wrestler to win the award for UIU, as Mya Mendoza earned this award earlier this season.
Upper Iowa hosted its first-ever home meet on Thursday, in the UIU Triangular, which featured Morningside and Luther. UIU beat the Mustangs, 24-15, and the Norse, 21-20.
Shoop went 2-0, earning nine points during the meet. She beat Lexi Timmerman of Luther via fall at 1:28. A four-point throw early in the match helped the Peacocks win the tiebreaker at the end of the dual. The freshman also won by a 13-0 tech fall over Kelise Krivohlavek of Morningside at 3:31, picking up a four-point throw in the second period.
The Peacocks conclude regular-season play on Saturday in the Grand View Open. Upper Iowa wrestles in the NCAA Region V Championships on Feb. 21.
