Peacock women’s basketball scheduled for showdowns with Miners and Blue Tigers

UIU in action for rematches against Missouri competition

FAYETTE, Iowa - Peacock women's basketball (11-10, 7-6 GLVC) makes another road trip to Missouri for contests against Missouri S&T (8-9, 4-7 GLVC) and Lincoln (Mo.) (4-16, 2-11 GLVC). 

UIU starts on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against S&T in Rolla, Missouri, at Gibson Arena. The Peacocks face Lincoln at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Jefferson City, Missouri, at Jason Gym.

LAST TIME OUT
Upper Iowa started last weekend's play with its third-straight win, 60-54, over Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (5-14, 2-11 GLVC). Ellie Foster scored 17 points with six assists, three rebounds, a steal and a block. Kendyl Lodermeier tallied her second-straight double-double, scoring 12 points with 10 rebounds. 

Leading 44-42 entering the fourth quarter, Ava Privet got a quick steal and knocked down a transition 3-pointer 16 seconds into it. After SBU tied the game at 52-52, the Peacocks went on a 6-0 run to help gain the advantage. UIU led for 33:20 in the game. 

The win streak was snapped against Drury (Mo.) (16-3, 12-1 GLVC), as Josie Storey hit a 3-point buzzer-beater to win, 77-75. The Peacocks made a season-high 24 free throws, but it was not enough to pull off the upset against the Panthers. 

Privet led the Peacocks with 16 points, shooting 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. Ellie Foster added 15 points, Josie Foster scored 14 points and Lodermeier added 12 points. UIU scored 30 points in the fourth quarter, the team's most in a game since the GLVC opener against Quincy (Ill.). 

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Ellie Foster leads the Peacocks, averaging 13.6 points per game, including scoring double digits in 15 of the last 16 games. She moved up to 11th in the GLVC in scoring average. The graduate adds 3.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She's made 56 3-pointers this season, leading the GLVC and ranking ninth in the nation. From behind the arc, she is shooting 38.1%, which is the fifth-best mark in the conference. 

Privet is averaging 12.2 points per game, ranking 19th in the GLVC. She adds 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She's shooting 42.2% from the field, 39.7% from behind the arc and 90% from the charity stripe. Her 50 3-pointers made rank second in the GLVC, and she has the third-best 3-point percentage. 

Lodermeier is adding 10.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, tying for the team lead in rebounds. She is shooting 52.1% from the field, ranking fifth in the GLVC. Bryar Duwe adds nine points per game and is tied with Lodermeier at 4.9 rebounds per game. They are tied for 21st in the conference in rebounding. 

Sydnee Nelson is adding 6.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and a team-best 3.6 assists per game. She's third in assists and assist/turnover ratio (1.6) in the GLVC. Josie Foster is scoring 4.9 points with 2.2 rebounds per game. 

UIU is scoring 65.3 points per game and allowing 66 points per game, ranking 10th and ninth in the GLVC, respectively. The Peacocks are shooting 34.5% on 3-pointers and 74.4% on free throws, which are third and fourth in the GLVC, respectively. 

AROUND THE GLVC
Missouri-St. Louis (16-3, 12-1 GLVC) was ranked No. 25 in last week's WBCA Coaches' Poll, but took its first conference loss this past weekend to Illinois Springfield (9-11, 6-6 GLVC). Lewis (Ill.) (13-7, 9-3 GLVC) had its GLVC-best 10-game win streak snapped by Drury this past weekend, but rebounded with a win against Missouri S&T. 

UMSL remains in first place with a one-game lead over Drury. Maryville (16-5, 10-3 GLVC) is in third, while Lewis is tied with Truman State (Mo.) (12-8, 9-3 GLVC) in fourth. Quincy (Ill.) (11-8, 8-4 GLVC) and McKendree (Ill.) (11-8, 8-5 GLVC) are ahead of the Peacocks, who enter the weekend in eighth. 

Drury's Sara Mendel was named the GLVC Player of the Week. She scored 19 points with 13 rebounds to snap the Flyers' win streak, then scored 11 points and 13 rebounds against the Peacocks. 

ABOUT THE MINERS - Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Missouri S&T enters after losing four of its last five games. The Miners defeated UIndy (5-16, 4-9 GLVC) by eight points on Thursday, Jan. 29. Thursday's game against the Peacocks is a whiteout for the Miners. 

Junior Norah Gum leads the Miners in scoring, averaging 13.2 points per game, ranking 14th in the GLVC. The six-footer adds 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Anna Finley is scoring 10 points per game during her redshirt junior season. Freshman forward Ava McCulla is scoring 8.7 points per game, while sophomore Anna Gilbertson adds 8.2 points per game. 

As a team, the Miners average 67.3 points per game, ranking seventh in the GLVC. S&T has the fourth-best scoring defense in the conference, allowing 60.4 points per game. The Miners hold opponents to a 36.2% shooting percentage, ranking as the second-best in the conference. They also average 41.1 rebounds per game, ranking second in the GLVC. 

The Peacocks and Miners met earlier this season on Dec. 6. UIU never trailed in the game as the Peacocks made 12 of their first 17 shots to take a 28-9 early lead in the second quarter. Lodermeier totaled a game-high 18 points, while Gum led the Miners with 14 points. Duwe had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. 

Head coach Kira Carter is in her sixth season with the Miners. She has a 61-90 record entering this weekend at Missouri S&T.

ABOUT THE BLUE TIGERS - Saturday at 1 p.m.
Lincoln enters on the second-worst losing streak in the conference of 11 games. The Blue Tigers last won against Lewis (Ill.) on Dec. 6, two days after their 90-67 loss to the Peacocks in Fayette. 

Senior guard Laini Joseph leads the team in points per game, averaging 15.9, but she has not played since Jan. 4. Freshman center Hallie Williamson is scoring 8.8 points per game with 3.1 rebounds per game. Another freshman, guard Bella Borgos, is averaging 8.2 points per game. 

The Blue Tigers are scoring 55.7 points per game and are giving up 69.1 points per game, ranking 14th in the GLVC. Lincoln is seventh in the conference in offensive rebounds, averaging 10.4 per game. 

Duwe scored a career-high 24 points in UIU's win over Lincoln on Dec. 4. The Peacocks shot 58.3% from behind the arc and 52.3% from the field, marking the team's second-highest shooting game this season. Borgos led Lincoln with 16 points and six rebounds. 

Addae Houston is the head coach of Lincoln. He is in his second season with the Blue Tigers and has a 6-40 record with the team.
