SHAWNEE, KAN. - The Peacocks (4-18) fell to Central Missouri (10-2), 13-4, and No. 17 Central Oklahoma (15-4), 9-1 in six innings. Catcher Jescie Comstock had three hits, a walk, an RBI and scored two runs.
UIU wraps up the Midwest Classic with a pair of games tomorrow. Upper Iowa faces Wayne State (Neb.) (10-1) at 10 a.m. and Newman (Kan.) (3-7) at 12:20 p.m.
Central Missouri 13, Upper Iowa 4
The Jennies jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning. UIU committed a fielding error, allowing the third base runner to score the first run. Cydney Fullerton's grand slam contributed another four runs. UCM added a run in the fourth off a Fullerton single, before adding a run at the top of the fifth on a Bailey Ast fielder's choice.
Upper Iowa answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs. Elliott Pomeroy connected for a single to left field and later moved to third on a Sara Reid left field double. An error by Central Missouri allowed Reagon Proud to bring Pomeroy home.
Comstock then singled to center field, scoring Reid. Another error by the Jennies brought Proud across the plate. Danni Laughlin finished the inning by hitting a left field single, allowing Comstock to score.
An Aly Hageman double in the sixth extended UCM's lead to four. Taylor Thompson's 2RBI home run in the seventh tallied three more runs for Central Missouri. The Jennies held on to win, 13-4, after totaling two more runs in the inning off a Hageman single and a Peacock error.
Comstock contributed two hits, an RBI, a walk and scored a run. Pomeroy posted two hits and scored a run. Proud and Reid recorded a hit and scored a run, while Laughlin had a hit and an RBI.
Mara Sivley was on the mound for 4.1 innings, giving up two earned runs on 11 hits and a walk. The freshman also struck out a batter.
Fullerton finished with five RBIs, two hits and scored a run. Thompson totaled three RBIs, a hit and scored a run. Andi Sieberneck pitched five innings, allowing no earned runs, no walks and eight hits. She also had two strikeouts.
UIU had nine hits, two RBIs, a walk, left five batters on base and scored a run. UCM posted 19 hits, three walks, 11 RBIs and left 13 batters on base. Both teams committed two errors.
No. 17 Central Oklahoma 9, Upper Iowa
Rylee Lemos of UCO scored the first run of the game after reaching on a single and scoring later on after a Peacock error.
Upper Iowa responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning. Comstock connected for a center field single. Laughlin connected for a double to left field, bringing Comstock home.
Central Oklahoma took a 5-1 lead after adding four runs in the second. A Sherri Mason single contributed to the first run, while a Lemos triple contributed to the final three.
The Bronchos boasted four more runs to win 9-1. The sixth run of the game happened during the second inning on a Lemos RBI double. The second happened in the fifth on a Jenna Jobe solo home run. The final two runs came during the sixth when Hayley Gallo hit a 2RBI home run. =
Laughlin had two hits, including a double and an RBI. Comstock posted a hit and scored the game's only run, while Emma Tautges posted a hit on a double. Reid also recorded a hit. The senior pitched six innings, giving up eight earned runs on 11 hits and 0 walks.
Lemos led UCO with four RBIs, three hits and scored two runs. Gallo had two RBIs, a hit and scored a run. Carleigh Kinnaird was on the mound for five innings, allowing an earned run on five hits and zero walks. She also had five strikeouts.
Upper Iowa totaled five hits, an RBI and left two batters on base. Central Oklahoma finished with 11 hits, eight RBIs and left four runners on base. UIU had two errors in the game.
