UIU softball falls in opening pair of games in Lewis Flyers Dome Invitational

Laughlin leads team with four hits in losses to Purdue Northwest and Wisconsin Parkside

Rosemont, Ill. - Peacock softball (1-13) fell to Purdue Northwest (Ind.) (2-1), 3-1, and to Wisconsin-Parkside (1-2), 12-0, in five innings on day one of the Lewis Flyers Dome Invitational. Dani Laughlin recorded a team-high four hits and added four putouts in Thursday's losses.  

Kaitlin Foral finished with three hits and five putouts. Elliott Pomeroy posted two hits and an RBI. Reagan Proud recorded two hits, an RBI and a walk.

Upper Iowa returns for day two of the invitational tomorrow. The Peacocks play Roosevelt (Ill.) (2-2) at 9 a.m. and Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) (3-2) at 1:30 p.m.

Purdue Northwest 3, Upper Iowa 1
The Pride took a 1-0 advantage in the first inning after Kylie Madura hit a sacrifice fly that brought home a run. PNW added another run at the top of the second on a Kylie Dugan bunt single.

UIU responded quickly with a run of its own at the bottom of the inning. Pomeroy connected for a single to start and later advanced from second to third after stealing the base. She scored on a Proud walk with the bases loaded. 

Purdue Northwest notched its final run of the game in the third inning off a Grace Wilson sacrifice fly. Both teams held each other scoreless for the final four innings, and the Pride held on to win, 3-1. 

Laughlin recorded three hits, while Pomeroy posted a hit and a run. Proud had a hit, an RBI and a walk. Sara Reid pitched seven innings, allowing two earned runs and five hits. She also struck out two batters. 

Dugan totaled two hits and a run, while Madura mustered a run and an RBI. Hailie Charmat was on the mound for seven innings, giving up seven hits and an earned run. The senior also recorded five strikeouts.

Upper Iowa had seven hits, left nine runners on base and walked once. Purdue Northwest notched five hits, left five runners on base and walked once. UIU recorded three errors to PNW's one. 

Wisconsin-Parkside 12, Upper Iowa 0 (5 Inn.)
The Rangers ripped off three runs in the second with a home run by Mia Johnson. They increased their lead to 8-0  after five runs in the third. The final blow came in the fourth inning when Cici Di Silvio homered to score two runs, and Reese Valha drove in two runners off a single to center field to win 12-0. The game ended after five innings. 

Foral finished with two hits, while Jescie Comstock had a walk. Proud, Laughlin, Pomeroy and Ella Perkins posted a hit. Cara Farnam pitched 2.2 innings, giving up three earned runs and five hits. The right-handed pitcher also recorded a strikeout.

Johnson had three hits, scored three runs and had five RBIs. Di Silvio posted three hits,scored three runs and had four RBIs. Holly Lowenberg pitched for five innings, allowing zero runs and six hits. She also struck out six Peacocks

UIU had six hits and was walked once. UWP recorded 11 hits, was walked five times and had 12 RBIs. Upper Iowa had an error, while Parkside had zero.
