Peacocks wrap up home play against top GLVC competition

UIU hosts first-place UMSL on Thursday, third-place Maryville for Senior Day on Saturday

FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa women's basketball (13-10, 9-6 GLVC) has its last two home games of the season this weekend against top GLVC competition in Missouri-St. Louis (18-3, 14-1 GLVC) and Maryville (Mo.) (18-5, 12-3 GLVC).

New this year, tickets for all Peacock home events can be purchased digitally at tickets.uiu.edu. Single game tickets are now available online and at the ticket booth on gameday. If you want to pay in person, both Harms-Eischeid Stadium and Dorman Memorial Gymnasium are now accepting all major credit cards, checks and cash.

SENIOR DAY
The Peacocks will honor two seniors on Saturday in between the women's and men's games. Graduate Ellie Foster and senior Amelia Valentino will both be recognized for Senior Day. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Peacocks went 2-0 this past weekend with wins over Missouri S&T (8-11, 4-9 GLVC) and Lincoln (Mo.) (4-18, 2-13 GLVC). Foster averaged a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds per game, while Ava Privet scored a team-best 20 points per game. 

UIU needed overtime to get past Missouri S&T, 77-73. The Peacocks ended the third quarter on a 10-0 run for a 52-45 lead heading into the fourth. S&T battled back, tying the game at 66-66 at the end of regulation. In overtime, Privet totaled six points with four from the charity stripe to help the Peacocks get the win.

Foster led the team with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists. Kendyl Lodermeier totaled her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Privet finished with 16 points and six rebounds. 

Privet scored 24 points while shooting 8-of-12 (75%) from the field in the 79-59 victory against Lincoln. That came up one point short of her career-high. Foster posted her first career double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. 

The Peacocks outscored Lincoln 21-10 in the second quarter to take firm control of the game. After nine lead changes in the first 12 minutes, the Peacocks gained control with a 17-3 run to take a 13-point lead. UIU never trailed again. 

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Foster leads the team in points per game, averaging 13.9. She's adding 4.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 41.7% from the field and 37.7% from behind the arc. 

In the GLVC, she is tied for ninth in points per game. She's made 60 3-pointers this season, the most of any player in the conference, while shooting the fourth-best 3-point percentage. 

Privet bumped her average up to 12.9 points per game while adding 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game. She is shooting 43% from the field, 39.8% from behind the arc and 92.2% from the charity stripe. Her 47-of-51 free-throw shooting numbers now qualify on the GLVC statistical leaderboard, making her the conference's leader in free-throw percentage. 

Her 3-point percentage ranks this in the GLVC, while her field goal percentage ranks 18th. She's made 53 3-pointers this season, tying with Natalia Crooke for the second-most in the GLVC. 

Lodermeier is averaging 11.2 points and a team-high 5.1 rebounds per game. She is also shooting a team-best 52.1% from the field. She ranks fifth in the GLVC in shooting percentage and 19th in rebounds per game.

Bryar Duwe is adding nine points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game. Sydnee Nelson is scoring 6.2 points per game with a team-high 3.5 assists per game. She ranks fourth in the GLVC in assists per game and third in assist/turnover ratio (1.6). 

UIU is averaging 66.4 points per game while allowing 66 points per game. Those marks rank ninth and eighth in the conference, respectively. The Peacocks are shooting 35.2% on 3-pointers, ranking third in the conference while leading the GLVC in 3-pointers made (193). 

AROUND THE GLVC
Missouri-St. Louis and Drury (Mo.) (16-6, 13-2 GLVC) clinched a spot in the GLVC Tournament after the point rating system was released after the games on Saturday. The point system followed the GLVC standings with Maryville coming in third, Lewis (Ill.) (14-8, 10-4 GLVC) in fourth and Truman State (Mo.) (13-9, 10-4 GLVC) in fifth.  

McKendree (Ill.) (12-8, 9-5 GLVC) and Quincy (12-9, 9-5 GLVC) are both slightly ahead of the Peacocks. UIU has a firm led in eighth place over Illinois Springfield (9-13, 6-8 GLVC). McKendree has a point rating of 3.43, Quincy 3.36, Upper Iowa 3.23 and Illinois Springfield 2.89. 

Drury has won a conference-best seven straight games. UMSL's Mara Rieder continues to lead the GLVC in points per game with 19.9, while Drury's Sara Mendel leads the conference in rebounding, averaging 10.3 per game. 

McKendree's Baylie Parks was named the GLVC Player of the Week. She notched a double-double against Illinois Springfield by scoring a career-high 35 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. 

ABOUT THE TRITONS - Thursday at 5 p.m.
UMSL picked up two wins this past weekend against UIndy (5-18, 4-11 GLVC), 64-51, and Lewis, 74-63. The Tritons fell the weekend before to Illinois Springfield, 75-68, for their first GLVC loss. Before that, UMSL had won nine straight games. 

Rieder, the GLVC leader in scoring, averages 19.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 1.2 assists per game. The junior posted a pair of double-doubles this past weekend with 19 points, 12 rebounds against UIndy and 26 points, 13 rebounds against Lewis. She has 11 double-doubles this season, ranking 12th nationally. 

Freshman guard Jayden Kuper is adding 14.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.4 steals per game. She is seventh in scoring in the GLVC. Senior guard Morgan Ramthun is averaging 12.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Spain native Anna Costa Riera leads the GLVC in assists, averaging 4.6 per game. 

UMSL has the No. 1 scoring defense in the GLVC, allowing 55.2 points per game. The Tritons are sixth offensively in the GLVC, scoring 67.7 points per game. They allow the lowest combined opponent rebounds in the conference (30.2 per game), and lead the GLVC in assist/turnover ratio (1.03).

The Peacocks and Tritons met earlier this season on Jan. 4. UIU had its worst shooting performance in conference play, shooting 18-of-60 (30%) in the 72-50 loss. Rieder scored 24 points with 11 rebounds, while Ramthun scored 21 points with 12 rebounds. 

Missouri-St. Louis is led by 14th-year head coach Katie Vaughn. She's going for her 250th career win on Thursday with a 249-207 record entering the contest against the Peacocks.

ABOUT THE SAINTS - Saturday at 1 p.m.
Maryville enters this weekend on a three-game win streak, last losing to UMSL by 10 points on Jan. 24. MU has won nine of its last 10 games. The Saints visit Lewis on Thursday before Saturday's matchup with UIU. 

Sophomore guard Lindsey Schadewalt leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.9 points per game, tying for ninth in the GLVC. 5-foot-11 freshman Claire Lueken is averaging 9.2 points and four rebounds per game. Madyson Ridgon is scoring 8.4 points per game, and Adlyn Ayer adds 7.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. 

Maryville has the fourth-best scoring offense in the GLVC, averaging 68.3 points per game, with the second-best scoring defense, allowing 56.1 points per game. The Saints allow the lowest opposing field goal percentage in the GLVC, holding teams to 34.1% from the field and 25% from behind the arc. They also have the best turnover margin in the GLVC (+3.96).

The Peacocks lost, 79-69, to the Saints on Jan. 2 in the first game of 2026. The game featured 10 lead changes and 10 ties, and Maryville got a huge push from its bench, outscoring UIU's, 42-4. 

Maryville ended the third quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 57-49 lead. The Peacocks cut the lead to two points with an 8-2 run in the fourth quarter, but the Saints calmed down after the last media timeout and responded with a 7-2 run for a 66-59 advantage. The Saints made four of its last five shots to help secure the 10-point win. 

Privet led the Peacocks with 20 points, while Lodermeier had 13 and Foster had 12. Schadewalt was the game's leading scorer with 22 points. Lueken and Ayer came off the bench and added 16 points and 15 points, respectively.

Brita Hand is in her third season with the Saints. She previously coached at Briar Cliff in Sioux City. She has a 51-29 record with Maryville and an 86-53 record as a head coach.
