UIU men's soccer welcomes Truman State, No. 10 Drury to Harms Family Field

The Peacocks play the Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and the Panthers on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa men's soccer (1-6-4, 1-6-2 GLVC) returns home to take on Truman State (Mo.) (4-4-3, 3-2-3 GLVC) on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. The Peacocks also host No. 10 Drury (Mo.) (8-2-1, 6-1-1 GLVC) on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
UIU tied with Illinois Springfield (1-7-3, 1-4-3 GLVC), 2-2, last Wednesday. The tie with the Bearcats became a program record of four ties in a single season. The Peacocks then lost, 2-0, to Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (5-4-2, 2-4-2 GLVC) on Saturday. 

The Peacocks trailed 2-0 against the Prairie Stars until forward Nahum Ghyslain Wellot Samba netted a goal in the 62nd minute off an assist from midfielder Timur Nagy. Wellot Samba scored the game-tying goal in the 74th minute. Forward Jeremiah Goko was credited with the assist.

SBU beat UIU, 2-0, after scoring goals in the 29th and 54th minutes of the game. Midfielder Pedro Campanha Buccini attempted a shot during the 56th minute that sailed wide left. Wellot Samba tried to take a last-second shot in the 90th minute, but was unable to connect. 

Wellot Samba attempted seven shots this week, with four on goal. Wendel Benjamin boasted four shots with two on goal. Buccini took four shots with one on goal. 

Goko posted two shots on goal. Nagy recorded an assist. Goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen tallied six saves. 

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Nagy and Wellot Samba are tied for a team-high three goals and 14 shots. Nagy leads the team with nine points, while Wellot Samba leads the team with 10 shots on goal. 

Buccini has a team-high four assists. His assist total is tied for a GLVC-most. Nymark-Pedersen has saved a league-most and NCAA 17th-most 47 shots. He is sixth nationally in minutes played by a goalie with 990:00

The team has taken 97 shots, including 50 on goal and 33 corner kicks. Upper Iowa has collected 10 assists and 10 goals. The Peacocks are fourth in the GLVC in saves with 47.

AROUND THE GLVC
Drury and Maryville (Mo.) (8-3-1, 6-1-1 GLVC) are tied for a GLVC high of 19 points. Quincy (Ill.) (5-1-4, 4-0-3 GLVC) has the second-most points with 17. Lincoln (Mo.) (6-0-3, 5-0-2 GLVC) is third with 16. 

Leo Cann of Quincy leads the league with 48 shots and 23 shots on goal. Jacob Pangos of Truman State has a conference-most 23 points and conference-most 11 goals. Jake Offerman of Quincy (Ill.) (5-2-5, 4-1-4 GLVC) has a league-best five shutouts. 

Southwest Baptist leads the GLVC with 194 shots, 101 shots on goal, 33 goals and 26 assists. William Jewell (Mo.) (8-3-1, 6-1-1 GLVC) posts a league-most 70 saves.

ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
Truman State was 1-1 in its last two contests. TSU beat Southwest Baptist on Sept. 30, 3-2, and lost, 2-1, to Missouri-St. Louis on Oct. 3. 

Pongos has taken a team-high 30 shots with a team-high 17 shots on goal. Spencer Slayton leads the program with three assists. Owen Robben has saved a team-high 45 shots.

Head Coach Duke Cochran is in his 17th season with the Bulldogs. He has 129 wins and 45 losses during his tenure with Truman St. 

ABOUT THE PANTHERS
Drury has won three of its last five games. This includes a 4-1 victory over McKendree (Ill.) (2-6-2, 1-4-2 GLVC) on Sep. 16, a 2-0 victory over Lewis (Ill.) (2-7-2, 1-6-2 GLVC) on Sep. 26 and a 1-0 victory over Quincy on Oct. 3. 

Steen Voller leads the team with four goals, four assists and 20 shots. Caua Nascimento has taken a team-best 13 shots on goal. Ben Barnett boasts a team-high 19 saves. 

Head Coach Ben Taylor is in his 10th year with the Bearcats. In his 26 years of coaching, he's totaled a record of 38-41-18

The Peacocks hit the road on Wednesday,  Oct. 14, to play Quincy at 5:30 p.m. UIU circles back home to Fayette to clash with UIndy (5-3-4, 4-2-3 GLVC) on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 2:30 p.m.
