BOLIVAR, Mo. - Peacock men's soccer (1-6-4, 1-6-2 GLVC) lost, 2-0, to Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (5-4-2, 2-4-2 GLVC) on Saturday. Midfielder Pedro Campanha Buccini recorded two shots, including a shot on goal.
The Bearcats' first goal of the game was scored by Dylan Gorman during the 29th minute. Joe Wright was credited with the assist.
Defender Rayan Lafon attempted to equalize for the Peacocks in the 40th minute. His shot was headed toward the bottom-left corner of the net, but Bearcat goalkeeper Martin King made the save.
SBU extended its lead to 2-0 after a Peacock committed a foul in the 54th minute. The foul led to a successful penalty kick taken by Nathaniel Velasquez.
Buccini recorded a shot for UIU in the 56th minute, but his attempt sailed just left of the goal. The Bearcats held on for the victory despite a last-second shot from forward Nahum Ghyslain Wellot Samba in the 90th minute, which also went wide to the left.
Buccini and Wellot Samba both boasted two shots. Forwards Sebastian Camargo and Benjamin Wendel, along with midfielders Santino Tapia Jr. and Matas Dumalakas, recorded a shot. Lafon tallied one shot on goal.
Noah Nymark-Pedersen collected four saves. Nymark-Pedersen, defender Carl Wihelmsson, defender Arnas Kurakinas, Buccini, Wellot Samba and Dumalakas all competed for 90 minutes.
Velasquez had five shots with three on goal and a goal. Gorman totaled four shots with two on goal and a goal. Justin McPherson recorded two shots with a shot on goal.
Southwest Baptist outshot Upper Iowa, 12-9. SBU also led 6-2 in shots on goal. There were a total of 11 corner kicks taken, two by the Peacocks and nine by the Bearcats.
The contest had a total of 31 fouls and three yellow cards. UIU posted 16 fouls and two yellow cards. SBU tallied 15 fouls and a yellow card.
Upper Iowa plays at home for its next two matchups. UIU hosts Truman State (Mo.) (4-3-3, 3-2-3 GLVC) on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 2:30 p.m. and No.10 Drury (Mo.) (8-2-1, 6-1-1 GLVC) on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
