FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa women's wrestling (0-5, 0-3 GLVC) competes in the GLVC Duals at Grand Valley State (Mich.). The Peacocks will face No. 20 William Jewell (Mo.) (1-2, 1-2 GLVC), Davenport (0-4, 0-4 GLVC) and Quincy (Ill.) (7-5, 2-1 GLVC) with action set to begin at 9 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
UIU wrestled in the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational on Jan. 17. The meet featured NWCA-ranked competition in No. 1 Iowa, No. 10 Northern Michigan, No. 13 Wartburg and No. 16 Simpson.
Kylee Shoop starred for the Peacocks in the meet, winning three of her matches. She beat Paige Haaf of Augsburg (Minn.), Alysia Yoder of Central Methodist (Mo.) and Alila Beck of Illinois Wesleyan. Eliana Callies (160) and Gracee Tompkins (180) each won a match.
Upper Iowa placed 11th out of 18 teams after earning 17.5 points. The team finished ahead of Loras College who had 17 points. Iowa won the invite with 195 points. Wartburg finished second with 121 points, and conference foe Northern Michigan finished third with 85 points.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
William Jewell is ranked No. 17 in the Jan. 16 NWCA poll. The Open Mat has William Jewell ranked No. 20 in the dual poll and No. 21 in the team tournament poll.
The Cardinals beat Avila (Mo.), 37-10, on Jan. 16. The team won 8 of its 9 matches in the victory over the Eagles.
Alex Waitsman (117) is ranked No. 6 in both NWCA and Open Mat rankings. She has an overall record of 22-4. In the National Duals in Cedar Falls, she beat Leiannah Landreth of Fort Hays State (Kan.) by an 11-0 tech fall. Landreth ranked No. 8 in the NWCA poll and No. 10 in The Open Mat rankings.
Head coach Desiree Ramos is in her fourth season at William Jewell. In 2025, she helped Waitsman become the program's first All-American.
ABOUT THE PANTHERS
Davenport is not ranked in the NWCA or The Open Mat rankings. The Panthers lost their last dual to Rochester Christian (Mich.), 25-18, on Jan. 8. Ava Niedzielski (138) and Olivia Root (131) both lead the team with seven wins this season.
Dominic Damon is in his first year as the head coach of Davenport. He was an assistant coach in 2024.
ABOUT THE HAWKS
Quincy is tied at No. 24 in the latest NWCA poll with three points. The Open Mat rankings have the Hawks at No. 18 in the team dual poll and No. 19 in the team tournament poll. Quincy last competed in the Missouri Baptist Open on Jan. 16.
Trinity Pendergrass (103) is the team's best overall wrestler, being ranked No. 8 in the NWCA poll and No. 9 in The Open Mat rankings. She has an overall record of 17-10. The senior beat Sienna Caruso of Lindenwood (Mo.) by a 10-0 tech fall at 2:38 and Kristina Kent of King (Tenn.) with a fall. Caruso is ranked No. 20 in The Open Mat rankings, while Kent is ranked No.10 in the NWCA rankings and The Open Mat rankings.
Jeff Haley is in his fourth season of as the head coach of the Hawks. Haley is a native from Quincy, Illinois.

UIU hosts its first-ever Triangular against Morningside and Luther College on Friday, Jan. 30. The meet will take place in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.
