FAYETTE, Iowa - The Peacock women's wrestling team (0-3, 0-3 GLVC) competes on Jan. 2 at the Fred Johnson Duals hosted by Augustana (Ill.) (2-3). The Peacocks will face off against the Vikings and the Carthage College (Wis.) Firebirds (4-6), with action starting at 9 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Peacocks ended 2025 by competing at the Avila (Mo.) Open on Dec. 14. Eliana Callies (160) picked up two victories for the Peacocks on the day.
The freshman from Rochester, Minnesota, defeated Erika Brokovich of William Woods (Mo.) by a fall at 3:26. Callies picked up her second win over Paige Strauch of Avila with a fall 38 seconds in.
ABOUT THE VIKINGS
Augustana picked up wins over Elmhurst (Ill.), 23-21, and Illinois Wesleyan, 40-5. The Vikings enter the weekend on a two-match losing streak to Wartburg and Simpson.
The Vikings have four wrestlers with 14 or more wins this season in Moni Griffin (138), Aine Moffit (180), Mia Vazquez (103) and Maryam Ndiaye (180). Griffin leads the team in wins via fall with 10 this season.
Head coach Tony Willaert is in his fifth season with the Vikings, posting a 14-19 record. He is the first and only head coach in the program's young history.
ABOUT THE FIREBIRDS
Carthage started the season in November at the Adrian (Mich.) duals, where they picked up wins over Siena Heights (Mich.), Delaware State, and Hiram (Ohio). The team enters this weekend on a two-match losing streak, falling by 12 points to both Alma (Mich.) and Northern Michigan.
Kristen Cortez (110), Alaina Hollendoner (138), Alexis Hozeska (145), and Abigail Jutrzonka (160) each have nine or more wins for the Firebirds. Hozeska enters on a five-match winning streak. Cortez leads the team in match points this season with 147.
Head coach Trakyia Mensah is in her first season as the head coach of the program. She was previously the head coach at Schreiner University (Texas).
