Box Score DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Upper Iowa (0-2) men's soccer team fell to St. Ambrose (5-0) on Saturday afternoon, 3-1. Sophomore Timur Nagy scored his first career goal in the 33rd minute.
Nagy's goal was set up by a corner kick by Alejandro Sanchez, whose kick found freshman Matas Dumalakas on the right side of the net. Dumalakas controlled it to Nagy in the middle of the field, who knocked it in with his right foot for the goal. This tied the game at 1-1.
St. Ambrose reclaimed the lead in the closing minute of the first half. An absolute rocket by Kai Yoshikane from the right side to the left corner of the net gave the Fighting Bees a 2-1 advantage.
Jake Pollack knocked in a header for St. Ambrose in the 67th minute, extending the lead to 3-1. The Fighting Bees' first goal of the game came in the 21st minute on a penalty kick goal by Josh Simon.
Sanchez led the Peacocks in shots with three, one being on goal. Gerardo Romo and Alejandro Suarez added two shots each. Sanchez and Dumalakas each added an assist. It's the fifth assist of Sanchez's Peacock career.
Noah Nymark-Pedersen got the start at goalkeeper for Upper Iowa. He recorded two saves in the match.
St. Ambrose outshot Upper Iowa 16-11 with a 10-6 advantage in the first half and a 6-5 advantage in the second half. The Fighting Bees had five corner kicks while the Peacocks had three. Upper Iowa committed 17 fouls compared to nine for St. Ambrose.
The Peacocks are back in action on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 3:30 p.m. against Viterbo (Wis.) in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Upper Iowa will then stay up north to play Parkside (Wis.) in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 12 p.m.
