Peacock football prepares to play homecoming spoiler vs. Missouri S&T

UIU attempts to extend winning streak in first GLVC road action on Saturday

FAYETTE, Iowa - The Upper Iowa football team (3-1, 1-0 GLVC) takes its three-game winning streak on the road against Missouri S&T (3-2, 1-1 GLVC) this Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Allgood-Bailey Stadium in Rolla, Missouri, for the Miners' homecoming game.

LAST TIME OUT
The Peacocks ran a season-high 39 attempts for 220 yards in Saturday's 31-10 homecoming victory over Lincoln (Mo.) (2-2, 0-2 GLVC). Damon Head Jr. led the rushing attack with 85 yards on 18 carries (4.7 per carry) and a touchdown. 

Upper Iowa scored 28 of its 31 points in the first half. Senior defensive lineman Eddy Latanauskas found the endzone on a one-yard rushing touchdown, lining up at fullback on the opening drive. Head Jr. knocked in a two-yard rushing touchdown on UIU's second possession to take a 14-3 lead. 

Senior quarterback Darryl Overstreet Jr. scored the third touchdown on a 28-yard scamper to the endzone. Overstreet Jr. then found Mante Morrow through the air on a 39-yard touchdown during a two-minute drill to end the half. It marked 10 straight games for Morrow with a receiving touchdown. 

Overstreet Jr. finished 17-of-22 (77.2%) with 212 passing yards and a touchdown. Jayden Gordon rushed 10 times for 57 yards, and Calvin Swinney rushed eight times for 44 yards. Eddie Burgess had six catches for 53 yards, Koda Gates-Bridges had six catches for 53 yards and Morrow had three catches for 51 yards. 

Tade Parsons led the Peacock defense with nine tackles (four solo). Trevor Thompson had six tackles (two solo). Demontay Mack had five tackles with 2.5 tackles-for-loss and a sack for a loss of 17 yards. 

STATISTICS SUMMARY
Overstreet Jr. is 82-of-112 (73.21%) passing this season with 997 yards and 10 touchdowns. He leads the GLVC in completion percentage, is sixth in passing yards and fourth in passing touchdowns. Nationally, his completion percentage ranks third. He also has a passing efficiency rating of 172.1, which leads the GLVC and ranks fifth in the nation. 

Morrow has totaled 426 yards this season with seven touchdowns. Both of those marks lead the GLVC. He ranks 12th nationally in receiving yards and third in the nation in receiving touchdowns. Morrow is tied for first in the GLVC in total points scored and ranks 13th nationally.

Head Jr. is the rushing leader for the Peacocks with 230 yards on 51 carries. He ranks eighth in the conference in total rushing yards.

Defensively, Parsons leads the team with 28 total tackles (18 solo). He ranks sixth in the GLVC in solo tackles. Mack has the most tackles-for-loss with 5.5, ranking sixth in the conference. His three sacks are the fourth-most in the GLVC.  

The Peacocks rank fourth in the GLVC in total offense (387.5 yards per game) and third in total defense (335.5 yards per game). UIU ranks first in the GLVC and ninth nationally in third-down conversion percentage (52.9%). The offensive line leads the GLVC and is 15th nationally in sacks allowed. 

AROUND THE GLVC
No. 19 UIndy (4-1, 2-0 GLVC) is the only team with two wins in conference play. The Greyhounds moved up three spots in the AFCA Coaches' Poll after beating Truman State (Mo.) (2-3, 1-1 GLVC) this past weekend, 30-20. Upper Iowa received two points in this week's poll. 

Quincy (Ill.) (3-1, 1-0 GLVC) and Upper Iowa are tied for second place, each with a 1-0 GLVC record. The Hawks picked up a 31-14 win over Wayne State (Mich.) (0-4) in nonconference action this past weekend. 

Missouri S&T, Truman State, Southwest Baptist (2-2, 1-1 GLVC) and McKendree (Ill.) (1-3, 1-1 GLVC) each have a conference win. Lincoln (Mo.) and William Jewell (Mo.) are both 0-2 in conference play with 2-2 overall records. 

ABOUT THE MINERS
Missouri S&T is coming off a 42-40 victory over Southwest Baptist (Mo.), where kicker Layne Ryals hit a 23-yard game-winning field goal in the closing seconds. The Miners won their first two games vs. Central Methodist (Mo.) (2-3) and Northeastern State (Okla.) (2-2) before losing to Missouri Western (1-3) and Truman State (Mo.).

Jake Farrell is the senior leader at quarterback for Missouri S&T after transferring from Hawai'i. He's 125-of-203 this season (61.58%) with 1,418 yards through the air. He's thrown 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Farrell earned GLVC Offensive Player of the Week and D2 Football Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 402 yards and three touchdowns vs. Southwest Baptist. 

Redshirt freshman running back Evan Wells leads the ground game for the Miners with 216 yards and a touchdown. Junior AJ Harris has totaled 189 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. 

At wide receiver, senior Reid Weber leads the team with 354 yards and six receiving touchdowns. He is averaging 70.8 receiving yards per game. Nationally, he ranks sixth in receiving touchdowns and 24th in receiving yardage. 

Junior Tyler Gioia has 16 catches for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Redshirt sophomore Sheldon Butler-Lawson has 190 yards receiving and a touchdown. Tight end Justis Braden has scored two touchdowns and has 162 yards receiving. 

Senior linebacker Seneca Bradley is all over the field defensively for the Miners, leading the team with 33 tackles (18 solo). He has three tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles, a sack, an interception, a breakup and a quarterback hurry this season. 

Defensive back Peyton Webster was named the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week after recording two interceptions against Southwest Baptist. The Miner defense has forced seven turnovers this season, ranking third in the GLVC.

Ryals was named the GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week after making three field goals in this past weekend's victory. He's 9-for-9 this season on field goals, with three coming from 40+ yards. 

The Miners average 288.6 passing yards per game, ranking second in the GLVC and 17th nationally. Their 30 points per game average ranks fourth in the conference. 

Head coach Andy Ball is in his fourth season at the helm of the program. He spent four seasons serving as the offensive coordinator and associate head coach of the Miners before taking the head coach job. Ball is 14-23 as the head coach for Missouri S&T.

LAST SEASON'S MATCHUP WITH THE MINERS
The Peacocks closed last season with a 51-7 win over Missouri S&T for Senior Day at Harms-Eischeid Stadium on Nov. 16, 2024. Overstreet Jr. was 24-of-32 for 341 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. 

Burgess added six catches for 115 yards through the air. Morrow caught five passes for 53 yards and a team-high two touchdowns. Jayden Mitchell rushed 10 times for 85 yards and a touchdown. 

Defensively, the Peacocks tallied four sacks, four forced fumbles and an interception. Latanauska, Braden Powers and Mack each had a sack and a forced fumble. Hunter Kane had the interception for Upper Iowa. 

Upper Iowa scored 41 of its 51 points in the second and third quarters. The Peacocks had 414 receiving yards as a unit, while totaling 597 yards of offense. The Miners had 195 yards of total offense.
