QUINCY, Ill. - Upper Iowa women's soccer (2-3-2, 0-2-1 GLVC) gave up two first-half goals in Friday night's loss to Quincy (Ill.) (4-1-2, 3-0-1 GLVC). Junior Haylie Hutchinson led the Peacocks with three shots, two of which were on goal.
Quincy's first goal came in the 27th minute when Ella Wolfard cut through the middle of the field with the ball and found the bottom left corner of the net. The second goal came in the 37th minute following a corner kick. Emma Tell knocked the ball in with a header after a deflection by UIU goalkeeper Sienna Johnson on the corner kick.
Wolfard's goal marked her fourth of the season. Tell's goal was her first of the season. Quincy outshot Upper Iowa 21-5 (9-3 shots on goal), with all of the Peacock's shots coming in the second half. 15 of Quincy's shots came in the second half.
Johnson totaled seven saves in goal with five in the second half. Myriah Roybal had a shot on goal at the final buzzer. Jessica Ancheta added a shot in the 89th minute. Roybal and Natalie Lima played all 90 minutes.
Quincy's Devin Tracy made three saves to earn the shutout. Alayna Vela led the team with three shots on goal. The Hawks had seven corner kicks compared to none for the Peacocks. Quincy had more fouls than Upper Iowa, 14-8.
The Peacocks will stay on the road this weekend and head to Kirksville, Missouri, for a matchup against Truman State (2-2-2, 2-1-1 GLVC). The Bulldogs defeated Lewis (Ill.) (2-1-3, 1-1-1 GLVC) by a score of 2-1 on Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
