Peacock men’s soccer continues conference play this week on the road

Upper Iowa travels on Friday to play No.24 Quincy and then again on Sunday to play Truman State


FAYETTE, Iowa – UIU men's soccer (2-3, 1-1 GLVC) hits the road this week to continue GLVC play. The Peacocks will first travel to Quincy, Illinois, to take on No. 24 Quincy (4-1-1, 2-1 GLVC) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and then head to Kirksville, Missouri, on Sunday to face Truman State (1-3-1, 0-3 GLVC) at 12 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Upper Iowa squared off against two of the top GLVC teams last week. No. 8 UIndy (4-1-1,  2-1 GLVC) last Thursday and No. 23 Lewis (Mo.) (2-1-3, 1-1 GLVC) at home. Upper Iowa lost 4-2 against the Greyhounds and then upset the Flyers in a 1-0 shutout win later in the week.  

John Pranger and Abraham Navarro each recorded their first career goal, while James Moody snagged his first goal of the season. Alejandro Sanchez had the most shot attempts with four. Noah Nymark-Pedersen dominated the Lewis game by allowing zero goals and recording five saves.

AROUND THE GLVC  
Lincoln (Mo.) (5-0, 3-0 GLVC) is the only undefeated team left, while Drury (0-2-3, 0-2-1 GLVC) is the only team left that has not won a match yet.

Two members jumped into the rankings this week after not being ranked last week, No. 10 Lincoln and No. 24 Quincy. Indianapolis moves down from No.8 to No. 23 after losing 2-1 against Quincy. Also, after UIU beat Lewis 1-0 on Sunday, the Flyers fell out of the top 25 after being ranked No. 23 last week. 

ABOUT THE HAWKS – Friday 7:30 p.m.
Quincy won both matches last week, beating Springfield (Ill.) (2-3-1, 1-2 GLVC), 2-0, on Friday and then UIndy, 2-1, on Sunday.

Carlos Moreno Henao leads the team with five goals and also tops the squad in shots on goal with 13. Josh Nwosu ranks second in scoring with three goals, two of which came in the matchup against Indianapolis. Goalkeeper Jake Offerman has 11 saves on the season and a save percentage of 84.6%.

Head coach Mike Carpenter is in his 14th season at Quincy with an overall record of 129-30-28. 

ABOUT THE BULLDOGS – Sunday 12 p.m.
Truman St. lost both its games last week, 3-0, against McKendree (Ill.)  (2-3-1, 2-1 GLVC) and, 5-3, against Springfield. 

Jacob Panagos leads the team in goals scored with three, followed by Tyler Boukaert with two and Mason Willier with one. Panagos leads the team in shots with nine and shots on goal with five. Goalkeeper Owen Robben has 14 goals against, 20 saves and a 58.8% save percentage. 

Duke Cochran is in his 17th year as the head coach at Truman State. His overall conference record is 125-44.

The Peacocks will host William Jewell (Mo.) (2-4, 1-2 GLVC) on Friday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. and Rockhurst (Mo.) (3-2-1, 2-0-1 GLVC) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
