Box Score 2 Upper Iowa baseball fell in both games in their doubleheader against Grand Valley State on Friday afternoon, dropping 17-1 in the first game and 9-4 in the second game of the day. 
 
Game One- UIU-1, GVSU-17
The Lakers took control early, building a double-digit lead by the fifth inning. They opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning, then added more runs in the second and third to lead 4-0. 
Upper Iowa's only run came in the bottom of the fourth when Brock Zimmer hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to 4-1. However, GVSU responded with a four-run fourth inning and added nine more runs between the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.
The Lakers finished with three home runs, collecting 17 runs on 17 hits, while the Peacocks totaled five hits. 
Brady Stevens took the loss for Upper Iowa after pitching 3.1 innings, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits, walking two batters, and striking out one. 
 
Game Two-UIU-4, GVSU-9
Grand Valley State quickly jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two. They took advantage of a leadoff double, followed by a groundout that brought in a run. The Peacocks answered in the bottom of the first when Gunnar Wicklund crushed a solo home run to left field, cutting the lead to 2-1.
In the fourth inning, the Lakers extended their lead with a pair of doubles. The first, a two-run double, brought in two runs and moved the score to 4-1. Shortly after, another double drove in two more runs, pushing the Lakers' advantage to 6-1.
Upper Iowa fought back in the bottom of the fourth as Justin Baehler delivered a powerful three-run homer to left field, cutting the deficit to just two runs at 6-4. However, the Peacocks were unable to capitalize further, leaving the score at 6-4 heading into the later innings.
Grand Valley State added to its lead in the ninth inning. They capitalized on a series of errors, with two unearned runs crossing the plate. First, an error by the pitcher allowed a runner to score, and later, a miscue behind the plate allowed another runner to cross the plate. The Lakers finished their scoring with a two-out RBI double, extending the lead to 9-4 to conclude the game. 
Peacock baseball finished the season 21-28 overall and 15-17 in the GLVC.
