Peacock baseball faced the Prairie Stars in the final contest of the series on Sunday afternoon, falling by a score of 13-2. UIS tallied 13 hits compared to UIU's five. Upper Iowa was led at the plate by
Justin Baehler, who recorded two hits, including a double.
The Prairie Stars scored two runs in the first inning and then added 11 more runs between the seventh and tenth innings.
UIU recorded its first hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a single to left field from
Brock Zimmer. Upper Iowa loaded the bases, but three baserunners were left stranded after the Peacocks could not bring anyone across the plate.
Upper Iowa scored once in the seventh and once in the eighth. In the seventh, Baehler reached base with a single, advanced on an error, and was later brought home on an RBI groundout by
Ethan Sawyer.
The home team's second run of the contest came in the bottom of the eighth, fueled by three hits.
Thane Meiners hit a single down the left side to make it on base and was brought around by Baehler after a double to left center.
The Prairie Stars notched five doubles and one home run, while the Peacocks managed one double.
Steve Marhefke pitched an efficient day but took the loss on the mound. He threw 6.0 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while walking one. He struck out four batters in his outing.
Peacock baseball returns home on Tuesday as they take on Viterbo at 2 p.m.
