Peacocks Split Series with Mercy Rule Victory

Upper Iowa returned to the Eischeid Softball Complex, where they dropped game one by a score of 8-2 to the Lincoln Blue Tigers. The Peacocks were able to bounce back in dominating fashion for game two, as they won by a score of 13-4 in five innings.

Game One
The Peacocks jumped to an early 2-0 lead at the bottom of the second inning. Rae VanMilligan made it to first on a walk and Kylie Doty would put both runners in scoring position with a double out to the right center field wall. In the second start of her collegiate career, Gezzelle Guardado put UIU on the board as she smacked a two RBI single up the middle.

Upper Iowa finished the game with four hits as Taylor Sedam hit a single to left field at the bottom of the first, and Guardado posted her second hit of the game with a single up the middle to lead off the fifth inning.

The Blue Tigers cut the lead to one in the third, before they put together a five-run inning in the fourth. They added two runs atop the seventh to seal the 8-2 win, where they were led by senior Ann-Marie Simpson's four RBIs and two triples.

Game Two
UIU was able to respond immediately in game two with a six-run first inning. They followed that up with three runs in the second, and another four runs in the fourth to ice the mercy rule victory 13-4.

The Peacocks posted a .586 batting average as they recorded 17 hits on 29 at bats. Upper Iowa added four doubles in the match, which all came in the first inning. Tristin Doster and Addyson Alber each recorded back-to-back RBI doubles which put the Peacocks ahead 2-0. Doty added a two RBI double three batters later, and Reagon Proud put the Peacocks up five with an RBI double to right center.

Serah Shafer hit a perfect 4-4 at the plate, where she scored two runs with two RBIs. Doty and Proud each added perfect performances as both players hit 3-3 with two runs. Doty tied for a team-high with three RBIs, while Proud recorded two RBIs. Doster posted a 3-4 mark, where she scored one run and matched Doty with a game-high three RBIs. Rae VanMilligan scored three game-high runs, while Alber added two runs and Taylor Hamaker made it home one time.

On the mound, Dorothy Ziebell pitched a complete game where she improved to 2-2 on the season. She allowed 10 hits in 27 batters faced, while giving up three earned runs.

The Peacocks will host Missouri S&T tomorrow, Apr. 6 with the double header match-up starting at 12 and 2 p.m.
