Upper Iowa closed out their trip to St. Louis, where they dropped game one to UMSL by a score of 10-8 in extra innings. The Tritons would then build on their momentum to take game two by a score of 8-0 through five innings.
Game One
Both teams opened the day with a high-scoring affair as at least one run was scored in eight out of the nine innings. The lead changed multiple times as the Tritons took a 1-0 lead in the first, before Upper Iowa responded with three runs atop the second. Missouri-St. Louis would pull ahead with runs in the third and fourth inning, but the Peacocks would put together a four-run sixth inning to take an 8-4 lead. The Tritons were able to record consecutive two-run innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to send the game to extras. There, UMSL hit a walk-off home run at the bottom of the ninth, to seal the 10-8 win.
Upper Iowa recorded 12 hits in the game, with
Serah Shafer and
Tristin Doster each hitting 3-5. Shafer was able to add one run and one RBI, while Doster recorded team-highs of two RBIs and two runs.
Elliott Pomeroy matched Doster with two runs in the match, while hitting 2-3 with one walk.
Kylie Doty and
Gezzelle Guardado each scored one run on one hit, and Doty was able to add one RBI.
Dorothy Ziebell also scored a run for the Peacocks, while
Taylor Sedam and
Addyson Alber each posted one hit plus one RBI.
Sara Reid appeared in the first six innings on the mound, where she struck out four batters.
Faith Lemonds closed out the final 2.2 innings in the circle, striking out two batters.
Game Two
The Tritons scored the opening run of game two in the second inning, and they were able to pull away with a five-run performance at the bottom of the third. They added two runs in the fifth inning, which closed out the 8-0 mercy rule win.
Upper Iowa recorded four hits as a team, with three doubles to lead off three different innings. Ziebell hit a double to center field to lead off the second inning, while Sedam recorded a double to right center in the opening at bat of the fourth. Alber followed that up to lead off the fifth with a double out to left field, and Guardado was able to add a single two at bats later.
Delaney Vetter pitched the first 2.2 innings for Upper Iowa, where she struck out four batters.
The Peacocks will stay on the road as they compete in their first non-conference games since February 22
nd. Upper Iowa will take on Wisconsin-Parkside on Wednesday, Apr. 16 at 12 and 2 p.m. and Missouri Western State, Saturday, Apr. 19 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
