The Maryville Saints got the best of Upper Iowa as they took game one by a score of 4-0, before following that up with a 6-1 win in game two.
Game One
The Saints were able to jump to a quick two-run lead in the first inning, where they hit RBI singles to the outfield. Maryville added another two runs with RBIs hit to the outfield corners in the fourth, which helped secure the 4-0 victory.
The Peacocks recorded one hit in the game, which came on a single up the middle by
Taylor Sedam during her first at bat. On the mound,
Sara Reid pitched her 12
th complete game of the season where she struck out two batters. She held the Saints to three earned runs, while only allowing five hits in 26 batters faced.
Game Two
Sedam put together a perfect performance at the plate in game two as she hit 3-3 with three singles. She led off the top of the fourth inning with a single to shortstop, and she would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Dorothy Ziebell. With two outs,
Kylie Doty hit an RBI single out to right field, which brought Sedam home to give Upper Iowa a 1-0 lead.
Maryville was able to load the bases at the bottom of the fourth, where they were able to tie the game on a groundout to shortstop. They added a two RBI shot through the left side on their next at bat, and they maintained the lead for the rest of the game. The Saints added two runs in the fifth, and they took advantage of an error in the sixth to score their sixth run of the game.
Serah Shafer and
Rae VanMilligan each added hits for the Peacocks. Shafer hit a single to the shortstop in the top of the third, and she would steal her 22
nd base of the season immediately afterwards. VanMilligan hit a single up the middle to lead off the sixth inning, and she was able to advance to second, before being forced out on a fielder's choice.
Delaney Vetter pitched the first four innings for the Peacocks, where she struck out five batters in 17 at bats. She allowed four earned runs on a total of five hits.
The Peacocks will stay in St. Louis as the face the UMSL Tritons, tomorrow, Apr. 13 at 12 and 2 p.m.
