Bison Best the Peacocks on Final Day of the Alvy Early Memorial Classic

Upper Iowa concluded the Alvy Early Memorial Classic with a 3-2 record. With the Peacocks coming off a two-game winning streak from yesterday, the Harding Bison got the best of UIU, winning by a score of 4-1 on the final day of the tournament.

Fifth year Delaney Vetter struck out her first two batters at the bottom of the second inning, and opened the third with consecutive ground outs. The Bison then recorded a single, and proceeded to advance to second off a wild pitch. A Peacock error would result in the Bison advancing runners to second and third, before a two RBI single would put them in the lead. Harding added a double at the next at bat to extend their lead to three, before the Peacocks forced an infield groundout to end the inning.

Junior Taylor Sedam and sophomore Addyson Alber each hit singles atop the fourth inning, but a fielder's choice at second would ultimately retire the side. Senior Reagan Church added a single at the start of the fifth, and freshman pinch runner Reagon Proud advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Following a Bison error, junior Serah Shafer hit her second single of the game, picking up an RBI in the process as Proud scored to cut the lead to 3-1. Sedam later recorded her second hit of the game as well, before Harding picked out the final out of the inning on a strikeout.

Harding singled in the bottom of the fifth inning, and they would advance their runner to third base with two outs. They were able to extend their lead to three with an RBI double to the outfield, which would clinch the 4-1 win.

The Peacocks compete in the Lewis Flyer Dome Invitational from Thursday, Feb. 20- Saturday, Feb. 22 where they will play in five games over the three-day span.
