The Peacocks put together a perfect 2-0 record on day two at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic. UIU took down Northwest Missouri State 4-2 and followed that up with a 4-3 victory against Newman.

Game One vs. Northwest Missouri State Bearcats
The Bearcats began the game with a single out to left field and followed that up with a single on a bunt. With two outs and runners on second and third base, Riahn Pinkerton hit an RBI single out to right field, putting Northwest Missouri State ahead 1-0. Junior Sara Reid closed out the first with a strikeout, and she added another strikeout to end the second inning as well.

Junior Serah Shafer and senior Tristin Doster each recorded singles in at the top of the fourth, but the Bearcat pitching struck out two batters to keep the lead. At the top of the seventh, sophomore Addyson Alber gave the Peacocks momentum by hitting a single. Junior pinch runner Shannon Nelson would then advance to second on an infield error that allowed fifth year Rae VanMilligan to get on base. Freshman Dorothy Ziebell tied the game with an RBI single out to right, bringing Nelson home while advancing VanMilligan to third base. Freshman Reagon Proud also reached first on an infield error, which gave the Peacocks the lead as VanMilligan scored on the play. With one out and the bases loaded, Shafer launched a double way out to left field as she recorded two RBIs as Ziebell and Proud scored to extend the lead to 4-1.

Reid recorded her third strikeout at the bottom of the seventh, the NWMSU was able to score a run on a single to center field. With runners on first and third, the Peacock defense forced a line out to second base, to clinch the 4-2 comeback victory.

Game Two vs. Newman Jets
Freshman Faith Lemonds struck out the first batter she faced against Newman, and closed out the inning by forcing a ground out. Shafer reached first on a successful bunt attempt, and she would later advance to third on a ground out. With out one, Doster recorded an RBI ground out to third, which brought Shafer home to put UIU up 1-0.

The Jets responded in the second by putting a batter on base due to a walk, where an RBI single out to center field tied the game at 1-1. With two runners in scoring position, Reghann Fairbairn scored on an infield error, putting the Jets ahead. Lemonds struck out another batter in the third and fifth innings, but the Jets were able to score another run on an RBI single to center field atop the sixth.

With the Peacocks down 3-1, Ziebell recorded a single out to right field to begin the bottom of the sixth, before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. In the first game of her Upper Iowa career, fifth year Aubree Terris smacked a clutch home run beyond the center field fall, securing two RBIs and tying the game at 3-3. Nelson added a single to left field before Shafer hit a double out to the center field wall, giving the Peacocks a 4-3 lead. Fifth year Delaney Vetter closed out the game on the mound where she struck out a batter and forced out number three on a grounder to second, as Upper Iowa swept the day with a 2-0 record.

The Peacocks will close out the tournament with a double header Sunday, Feb. 9. Upper Iowa will face Harding at 11 a.m. and East Central at 1:30 p.m.
