Peacocks Face Flyers in Four-Game Series

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK BASEBALL
The Peacocks are set to travel to Illinois this weekend to face off against Lewis at Ozinga Field in Crestwood, Ill. They will compete in four matchups, including a doubleheader on Friday starting at 12 p.m. and another doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 12 p.m. UIU heads into the weekend with a 3-3 record.

RECAP OF THE LAST ACTION
Baseball claimed the series against William Jewell, defeating them in two games out of three. They trumped the Cardinals 7-1 in the first contest before dropping by an 8-6 decision in game two. The Peacocks bounced back for game three and claimed the 7-5 victory. 
 
GLVC PRESEASON POLL
Upper Iowa was voted 14th in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll after accumulating 37 votes. Indianapolis was voted in the preseason coaches' poll to win the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) baseball championship.
 
Trailing behind the Greyhounds to round out the top five were Maryville (174 votes), Quincy (164 votes), Drury (156) and Missouri-St. Louis (141).
 
Rounding out the poll through 15th are the University of Illinois Springfield (124), Lewis (123), Rockhurst (107), William Jewell (99), Missouri S&T (89), McKendree (67), Truman State (45), Southwest Baptist (41), Upper Iowa University (37), and Lincoln (14).
 
WENT TO TOWN ON THE MOUND
Brady Stevens picked up his first win on the mound in game one against the Cardinals last weekend. The senior threw six innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while only walking two batters. He registered nine strikeouts in his outing. Stevens ranks fifth amongst GLVC competitors with a 1.50 ERA. 
 
EARLY LEADERS AT THE PLATE
Bryce Hall leads the team at the plate with a .471 average (9th in GLVC), while Ethan Sawyer is batting .458 (12th in GLVC) with a team-high 11 hits and 7 RBIs. Gunnar Wicklund has notched three home runs, trailed by Jared Hoodjer and Gabe Bombardier, who have hit two. 
 
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Lewis was selected 7th in the GLVC Preseason Poll behind 123 votes. They have started the campaign 1-3 after a four-game series with the University of Findlay. Mikey Kocen leads the Flyers at the plate with a .500 average and six hits. Dylan Wolff and Brendan Lawry have thrown for five innings each and have an ERA of 0.00 with a combined 12 strikeouts. 
 
ON DECK
Peacock baseball is set to play its first conference series against Quincy next weekend, Mar. 7-9 in Quincy, Ill.
