Upper Iowa men’s basketball battles two GLVC foes at home this week

UIU squares up with Lincoln on Thursday at 7 p.m. and No.5 Missouri S&T on Saturday at 3 p.m.

FAYETTE, Iowa - Peacock men's basketball (5-1, 1-0 GLVC) returns home this week to face Lincoln (Mo.) (4-2, 1-1 GLVC) on Thursday at 7 p.m. and No. 5 Missouri S&T (4-0, 1-0 GLVC) on Saturday at 3 p.m.

TICKET INFORMATION
New this year, tickets for all Peacock home events can be purchased digitally at tickets.uiu.edu. Single game tickets are now available online and at the ticket booth on gameday. If you want to pay in person, both Harms-Eischeid Stadium and Dorman Memorial Gymnasium are now accepting all major credit cards, checks and cash.

LAST TIME OUT 
Upper Iowa beat Minnesota Crookston (5-1), 96-81 in its home opener on Friday and then beat Quincy (Ill.) (3-3, 0-1 GLVC), 96-92 in an overtime thriller on Monday. 

The Peacocks dominated the Golden Eagles for the first 38 minutes of Friday's contest, leading by as many as 20 points before UMC trimmed the margin to 69-63 with 8:30 remaining. UIU responded by outscoring Crookston 27-18 down the stretch to secure the win. Trey Lewis led Upper Iowa with 22 points, five assists, three rebounds and a steal.

UIU and Quincy traded blows throughout the first half of Monday's contest, but Upper Iowa took a 48-41 lead into the break. The Hawks outscored the Peacocks 33-14 over the first 12 minutes of the second half and pushed the margin to 16. Upper Iowa answered with a 20-6 run over the final six minutes to send the game into overtime.

The teams were tied at 80-80 heading into the extra period. Both sides continued to battle until UIU grabbed a 95-92 lead, and Quincy's final 3-point attempt missed as the Peacocks completed the comeback. Kyle Hrncir finished with a double-double, scoring 31 points, including seven in overtime, and hauling in 10 rebounds. He also added two assists and two steals.

STATISTICS SUMMARY
Hrncir leads the Peacocks with 20.8 points per game (ppg), 10 rebounds per game (rpg) and 3.5 assists per game (apg). He and Jack Miller are tied for the team lead with 2.2 steals per game (spg). Hrncir's four double-doubles are tied for sixth nationally. 

Lewis is averaging 13.5 ppg, 2.3 spg and 1.3 apg. Tate Petersen has been a spark off the bench, averaging 13.5 ppg while shooting a team-best 17-for-32 (53.1%). Miller leads the team in blocks with three. 

Over the first month of the season, UIU has averaged 88.3 points per game, shot 187-for-403 (46.4%) from the field and 60-for-169 (35.5%) from beyond the arc. Upper Iowa averages 36.3 rebounds, 14.8 assists and 9.7 steals per game.

The Peacocks lead the GLVC in points per game. UIU is also second in both assists per game and total steals with 58. 

AROUND THE GLVC
In the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, Missouri S&T moved up to No. 5 after being No. 6 last week, and McKendree (Ill.) (5-1, 1-0 GLVC) received four votes. 

Illinois Springfield (5-2, 2-0 GLVC) is the lone team in the conference thus far to have competed in two GLVC contests. The Prairie Stars are 2-0 after beating Missouri-St. Louis (4-3, 0-1 GLVC), 86-76 and William Jewel (Mo.) (2-4, 0-1 GLVC), 61-60. 

ABOUT THE BLUE TIGERS - Thursday at 7 p.m.
Last Saturday, Lincoln defeated Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (4-3, 1-1 GLVC), 77-68, but lost on Monday to No. 6 Missouri S&T, 99-87.

Solomon Oragbu leads the team in scoring with 20.2 ppg. Max Ekono leads the team in rpg with 7.5. Tyler Chapman averages a team-high 3.3 apg.

Head Coach Jimmy Drew is in his fourth season, with an overall record of 59-36. 

ABOUT THE MINERS - Saturday at 3 p.m.
Missouri S&T went 2-0 in its previous two contests. Last Wednesday, S&T took on Ecclesia (Ark.) (0-12) and won, 75-61. On Monday, the team took on Lincoln and beat them, 99-87.

Cameron Stovall and Alex Benassi each average a team-high 16.3 ppg. Stovall also leads the team in rebounds per game with nine. Blaise Beauchamp averages a team-best 3.5 apg, while 

Andrew Young averages the second-best with 3.3 apg.

Bill Walker is in his seventh season at Missouri S&T and has an overall record of 81-83. 

UP NEXT
Upper Iowa's last two games of 2025 will be at home. The first game is against Clarke (3-8) on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 12 p.m. The second game is against Roosevelt (Ill.) (0-4) on Friday, Dec. 19, at 3 p.m.
