Upper Iowa swept by Prairie Stars to open road weekend

Imbrogno totals seven kills and leads the team with 11 digs in Friday night's loss

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Upper Iowa volleyball team (6-18, 4-17 GLVC) was swept on Friday night by Illinois Springfield (12-11, 4-6 GLVC). The Peacocks were outhit .237-.069 and outkilled 43-27 in the match. 

The first set was back-and-forth, featuring 15 ties and six lead changes. With UIU leading 20-18, the Prairie Stars scored seven of the final nine points to win the set, featuring three kills by Makenna Cox. A block by Lexie Vick won the set, 25-22. 

Illinois Springfield took an early 8-3 advantage in the second set, but UIU battled back to make it 13-11. A 4-0 run with three Peacock attack errors gave the Prairie Stars a 17-11 advantage. UIS controlled the rest of the set to win, 25-18.

The final set was UIS's most dominant, winning 25-15 with a .275 hitting percentage. Leading 11-8, the Prairie Stars went on an 8-0 run to take a commanding 19-8 lead. 

Martha Pace led the Peacocks in kills with nine while adding eight digs and two blocks. Lydia Imbrogno totaled seven kills and a team-high 11 digs. Kailey Porter tallied six kills and a team-high four blocks. 

Grace Fruzen led the team in assists with 24 while picking up six digs. McKenna Diermeier added nine digs as well. 

Cox led Illinois Springfield with 16 kills on a .256 hitting percentage. She added a game-high four service aces. Madison Siefken had 10 kills, Vick had three blocks, Erica Sledge had 32 assists and Tuana Yuce totaled 15 digs. 

The Peacocks are back in action on Saturday for a battle of the birds against the Quincy (Ill.) Hawks (19-5, 8-2 GLVC). Quincy picked up a four-set win over Truman State (Mo.) on Friday night. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Pepsi Arena.
