Men’s soccer travels to Missouri for this week's matches

Upper Iowa heads to Southwest Baptist on Friday and then to Drury on Sunday.

FAYETTE, Iowa – Peacock men's soccer travels to Bolivar, Missouri, to face Southwest Baptist (4-6-1, 1-5-1 GLVC) on Friday at 1:30 p.m., then heads further south to Springfield, Missouri, to take on Drury (1-3-5, 1-3-3 GLVC) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Last week, the Peacocks drew their first match on Friday with William Jewell (2-6-2, 1-4-2 GLVC), 3-3, and then lost their second match on Sunday to Rockhurst (6-2-2, 5-0-2 GLVC), 3-1. 

Alejandro Sanchez scored a career-high two goals against the Cardinals and proceeded to add another goal against the Hawks. Timur Nagy scored his second goal of the season in the William Jewel game. Dexter Garrett, Gerardo Romo and Matas Dumalakas each recorded an assist.

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Sanchez leads the team with three goals, four assists, 24 shots and 14 shots on goal. He ranks third in the GLVC in shots, second in shots on goal, tied for third in assists and is 10th in total points (10).

Nymark-Pedersen has 22 saves on the season. He ranks fifth in the GLVC in saves per game (3.38). UIU as a team ranks third in the GLVC in total saves (37).   

AROUND THE GLVC  
Rockhurst's Kaden Cripe won GLVC Offensive Player of the Week with two goals and two shots on goal in 124 minutes, while UIndy's (7-1-2, 5-1-1 GLVC) Keerti Unnamatla won GLVC Defensive Player of the Week with nine saves and two shutouts. 

Two teams remain undefeated in GLVC play: Rockhurst and No. 20 Lincoln (6-0-2, 4-0-2 GLVC). Lincoln dropped from No. 10 to No. 20 in the latest national rankings after a 1-0 win over Maryville and a 1-1 draw with McKendree last week.

ABOUT THE BEARCATS – Friday 1:30 p.m.
Southwest Baptist lost, 2-0, in its first contest against UIndy and tied its second contest, 2-2, with Lewis (3-2-5, 2-2-2 GLVC). 

Myles Paniagua leads the team with four goals, which is also good for eighth in the GLVC. Iker Lorenzo has a team-high four assists, tying UIU's Sanchez for the fourth-most in the conference. Paniagua and Zinedine Cherick both lead the team in shots on goal with nine.

Goalkeeper Jan-Henry Schafer has 30 saves on the season and a save percentage of 62.5%. 

Head coach Steve Bushre is in his second season with the Bearcats. He currently has a record of 6-19-4.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS – Sunday 2:30 p.m. 
Drury's first contest ended in a 2-2 tie with Illinois-Springfield, and the second game ended in a 1-0 loss to Indianapolis. 

Lui Bull has a team-high three goals and a team-high eight shots on goal. Joe Loughnane leads the team in assists with three. Goalkeeper Camden Meyer has a total of 28 saves and a 66.7% save percentage. 

Ben Taylor is in his ninth season as the Panthers' head coach. He has an overall record of 58-62-32.

Next week, the Peacocks will play at Harms Family Field against Missouri S&T on Friday at 5 p.m. and then against No. 10 Lincoln on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
