INDIANAPOLIS - The Upper Iowa volleyball team (1-12, 1-2 GLVC) fell in straight sets to UIndy (11-5, 2-1 GLVC) on Friday night. The Peacocks lost the three sets, 25-19, 25-12 and 25-17.
Lydia Imbrogno totaled 13 digs, he second-most this season. This marked the outside hitter's fifth game with 10 or more digs. She also had three kills and a set assist.Â
Martha Pace led the Peacocks in kills with six, while adding four digs. She also had a team-leading three service aces on the night. This helped UIU have the advantage on serves, 6-3, in the contest.Â
Erica Conger was second on the team in kills with five. Alexis Moses had four kills. Reese Martin returned to the lineup to tally four kills of her own.
Grace Fruzen led the Peacocks in assists with 20. She had a dig and a service ace. Kailani Schroeder had five assists with five digs. Jaeden Cook had three assists.
Upper Iowa found itself down 10-3 early in the first set. The Peacocks then went on a 10-3 run of their own to tie it at 13-13. The third run featured four kills and three blocks from UIU.Â
After a tie at 14-14, UIndy went on the attack with a 5-0 run. That helped the Greyhounds get momentum in the set to win it, 25-19.
Up 11-8 in the second set, the Greyhounds put the pressure on again. They went on a 14-4 run to end the set, featuring them scoring the last five points to win, 25-12.
Upper Iowa went on a 6-0 early run to take a 9-5 lead in the second set that featured two Pace aces, two Carley Jonker kills and a kill by Kailey Porter. That run was immediately halted by four straight UIndy points to tie the set at 9-9. The Greyhounds extended the lead to 20-17, then scored the last five points again via four kills and a service ace to end the match.
UIndy was led by Makenzie Pflederer with 12 kills and two service aces. Maddie Lynch added eight kills, and Paige Parlanti had six kills. Carly Fonda totaled 27 assists while Macy Bruton had 16 digs, and Parlanti tallied 14 digs.
The Greyhounds won the match with a 48-30 advantage in kills and a 45-30 advantage in assists. UIndy had 50 digs compared to 37 for Upper Iowa. The Greyhounds had four blocks while the Peacocks had three.Â
The Peacocks are back in action on Saturday against Lewis (Ill.) (8-7, 1-2 GLVC). The Flyers fell in five sets to Truman State (6-9, 3-0 GLVC) on Friday night. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena in Romeoville, Illinois.
