ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Morgan Block, Grace Fruzen and Martha Pace tallied career-highs in Upper Iowa's (1-13, 1-3 GLVC) four-set loss to Lewis (Ill.) (9-7, 2-2 GLVC) on Saturday afternoon. The Peacocks picked up a win in the second set, but fell 25-21, 18-25, 25-16, 25-14.Â
Block totaled 34 digs, beating her previous career-best of 21 earlier this season vs. Rockhurst (Mo.). She also had a career-high three service aces while adding four assists.Â
Fruzen finished with a career-best 37 assists. This was the most for her since the Rockhurst game as well, when she had 34. She also totaled 18 digs, tying her career-high from Sept. 12 against Minnesota Crookston.Â
Pace totaled 17 kills, beating her previous career-best of 16 vs. William Jewell on Sept. 20. She also added 15 digs for her second-most this season.Â
Reese Martin and Lyrdia Imbrogno each totaled eight kills. Imbrogno had 11 digs with a solo block. Martin added nine digs and two block assists.Â
The Peacocks tallied a season-high 96 digs as a team. But Lewis finished with a slight advantage in digs, 98-96. UIU's 47 kills tied for their second-most in a match this year.Â
The first set was back-and-forth all the way to the 20-20 mark. After that, Lewis scored five of the last six points via four kills, a service ace and a UIU attack error.Â
The Flyers jumped on the Peacocks early in the second set with a 5-1 lead. Upper Iowa responded with a 7-1 run to take an 8-6 lead. The run featured two service aces from Block.Â
UIU later extended the lead to 14-8, but Lewis battled back to cut it to 19-18. The Peacocks then finished the set by scoring the final six points to win it. Martin shone during the final stretch with two kills and a service ace.Â
Lewis came alive in the third set to take an early 11-2 lead. UIU later used a 5-0 run to cut it to 14-9, but the Flyers didn't falter to win it, 25-16. The Flyers jumped out to a 10-3 advantage in the fourth set, which helped them win it, 25-14.Â
Emma O'Neill led the Flyers with 15 kills and seven blocks. Ann-Kelly Velikov had 10 kills and Sarah Newberry had eight. Kailegh Krawiec had 25 assists and Lily King had 18 assists. Elena Gubera led the team in digs with 33.Â
The Flyers controlled the net, outkilling the Peacocks, 55-47, and totaling a 13-4 block advantage. Lewis hit .166 while the Peacocks hit .118. UIU did better on serves, with a 9-6 lead on service aces.Â
Upper Iowa returns to Dorman Gymnasium next weekend against Missouri-St. Louis (11-4, 4-0 GLVC) and McKendree (Ill.) (3-12, 2-2 GLVC). The Peacocks start the weekend by facing the Tritons at 6 p.m. on Friday.
