KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The UIU volleyball team (5-16, 3-5 GLVC) lost in straight sets to Rockhurst (Mo.) (16-7, 7-0 GLVC) on Saturday. The Peacocks were led for the second straight game on the attack by Martha Pace with 10 kills.
Pace added a solo block and two block assists with five digs and a service ace. Kailey Porter had seven kills, Lydia Imbrogno had six kills, Alexis Moses had four kills and Erica Conger had four kills.
Grace Fruzen totaled 29 assists and five digs. Morgan Block led the team in digs with 17. Imbrogno tallied eight digs while Carley Jonker had four digs. Conger led the Peacocks in service aces with two, helping UIU have the team advantage on aces, 5-3.
Rockhurst hit .464 in the first set to win it, 25-9. RU went on a 17-1 run in the first set. The Hawks hit .302 in the second set, but UIU battled to trail 21-19 late. Rockhurst scored the final four points with two kills by Delaney Hope, a block and a kill by Avery DeLong to win, 25-19.
The third set was the most competitive, with Upper Iowa going on a late 5-1 run to tie it at 22-22. Imbrogno had two kills during the run, and Fruzen tied it up with a kill of her own. Rockhurst rallied, and Hope ended the match with a kill to win, 25-23.
Hope led the Hawks in kills with 14. Sarah Ple added nine and Chloe Tyrrell had eight. Mary Kate Mulvaney had 19 assists and Katie Vargo totaled 14 digs. The Hawks finished the match hitting .288 while the Peacocks hit .076.
Upper Iowa returns home on Friday, Oct. 31, for Senior Night against Drury (Mo.) (13-8, 3-3 GLVC). First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium. UIU hosts Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (8-14, 1-6 GLVC) on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 3 p.m.
