FAYETTE, Iowa - The Upper Iowa volleyball team (5-17, 3-6 GLVC) was swept on Halloween by Drury (Mo.) (14-9, 4-4 GLVC). The Panthers won all three sets by a score of 25-21.
The game also marked Senior Night for Upper Iowa. McKenna Diermeier, Martha Pace, Lydia Imbrogno and Reese Martin were all honored for the Peacocks after the game.
Imbrogno led the Peacocks in kills with eight while adding 10 digs and three blocks. Pace, Alexis Moses and Kailey Porter all had six kills. Porter led the Peacocks in blocks with four.
Grace Fruzen totaled 26 assists, eight digs and three kills. Libero Morgan Block led the team in digs with 15, while Diermeier totaled 12 digs.
Upper Iowa went on a 6-0 run off of six straight kills to take a 12-10 lead in the first set. The craziest play was on the fifth kill. Fruzen dug the ball late in the rally, which went over to the Bearcat side and hit the line for the wild dig kill.
Drury matched the 6-0 run later in the set to take qa 17-13 lead. The Peacocks got it down to 19-18, but the Panthers scored six of the last nine points to win the set. Maile Chretien scored their last three points with kills.
The Panthers controlled the second set and only trailed once at 5-4, winning it after Skylar Hilton and Chretien both totaled three kills. A 5-0 run in the third helped Drury take a 12-6 lead. The Peacocks later battled back with a 7-1 run to tie it at 17-17.
Drury responded with a kill by Abby Renshaw and two Chretien kills, aiding a 4-0 run. A block by Hilton and Ella Rademaker won the set once again at 25-21.
Rademaker and Chretien led Drury with 11 kills each. Lauren Tyler had 20 assists, and Jacy Bray had 14 assists. Kim Quinit led the Panthers in digs with 18.
The Panthers hit .189 in the match, with a .351 first set. The Peacocks finished with a hitting percentage of .098. Durry had the advantage in kills, 41-34, blocks, 8-6, assists, 40-32, and digs, 70-60. Both teams had four aces.
The Peacocks have their home finale on Saturday afternoon against Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (8-15, 1-7 GLVC). The Bearcats were swept by Truman State (Mo.) on Friday night. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. after the Upper Iowa football game.
