Sanchez scores twice in 3-2 loss to No. 20 Lincoln

Senior forward up to five goals on the season after scoring twice on Sunday

FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa men's soccer (3-8-2, 2-6-2 GLVC) battled but fell to No. 20 Lincoln (Mo.) (8-0-4, 6-0-4 GLVC) on Sunday afternoon. Alejandro Sanchez scored two goals for the Peacocks, marking his second multiple-goal game this season. 

Sanchez totaled five of Upper Iowa's 11 shots on the day. Four of his shots were on goal. He is now up to a team-leading five goals on the year. 

Lincoln opened with a 2-0 early advantage in the first half. Kevon Maitland and Joege Arevalo found the net for scores for the Blue Tigers. Lincoln scored on two of three shots in the first half. 

Sanchez found the net for the Peacocks 10 minutes into the second half. Jeremiah Goko dumped the ball into Timur Nagy, who crossed it into the middle of the field to Sanchez for the score. 

Maitland added his second goal of the game in the 75th minute. Nkouka Loubassou found Maitland on the right side, who shot it low to the left side for the score.

Sanchez's second goal came on a free kick just outside of the box. Florian Deick drew the foul to set up the goal with 30 seconds left in the game. 

UIU outshot Lincoln 11-7 with a 7-4 advantage in the second half. Lincoln goalkeeper Vincent Osei totaled five saves, while Noah Nymark Pedersen had one save. LU had a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks. 

Tura Dalu had two shots on goal for the Peacocks. Eduardo Gomez Montt had one shot on goal. Deick also had a shot on goal and played all 90 minutes. James Moody, Arnas Kurakinas, Dexter Garrett and Matas Dumalakas played the full game. 

The Peacocks have their final road trip of the regular season next weekend against Missouri-St. Louis (4-4-5, 3-3-4 GLVC) on Friday, Oct. 24, and Maryville (Mo.) (7-5-1, 6-4 GLVC) on Sunday, Oct. 26.
