Peacocks back in Harms-Eischeid for GLVC action

Upper Iowa plays William Jewell on Friday and Rockhurst on Sunday

FAYETTE, Iowa - The Upper Iowa women's soccer team (2-4-2, 0-3-1 GLVC) is back in Harms-Eischeid Stadium this weekend. The Peacocks face William Jewell (Mo.) (0-5-3, 0-3-2 GLVC) on Friday at 5 p.m. and Rockhurst (Mo.) (3-3-2, 2-2-1 GLVC) on Sunday at noon.

LAST TIME OUT
Upper Iowa fell to Quincy (Ill.) (4-1-2, 3-0-1 GLVC), 2-0, and Truman State (Mo.) (3-2-2, 3-1-1 GLVC), 3-1, in this weekend's action. Haylee Allen knocked in UIU's only goal in the first half against Truman State. 

Allen's goal came in the 14th minute. Haylie Hutchinson got it started by deflecting the ball toward Meghan Zwicker. She then got the ball back to Hutchinson on the right side, who crossed it over to Allen in front of the net for the score.  

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Hutchinson leads the Peacocks in scoring with five points (one goal, three assists). She also leads the team in shots with 10. The junior is tied for third in the GLVC in assists. 

Allen and Rhea Buchanan lead the team in goals with two each. Giovanna Alexa Garcia also has scored a goal. Jessica Ancheta has the second-most shots on the team with seven. Myriah Roybal is the only Peacock in the field to play every minute this season.

Sienna Johnson has started and played every minute at goalkeeper for the Peacocks this season. She has 45 saves and a 77.8% save percentage with three shutouts. The freshman has the second-most total saves and the seventh-best save percentage in the GLVC. 

AROUND THE GLVC
McKendree (Ill.) (4-0-4, 4-0-1 GLVC) and Missouri-St. Louis (5-2-1, 4-0-1 GLVC) are the conference leaders. Maryville (Mo.) (5-0-3, 3-0-2 GLVC) and Quincy (Ill.) (4-1-2, 3-0-1 GLVC) also have not suffered a loss in conference play.

Maryville fell five spots to No. 16 in this week's United Soccer Coaches' Poll. The Saints tied with Drury (Mo.) (3-2-2, 2-1-1 GLVC) and Missouri S&T (3-3-1, 1-2-1 GLVC) this past weekend. 

Upper Iowa is one of five teams that have yet to win a conference game. Lincoln, UIndy, William Jewell and Illinois Springfield are all seeking their first GLVC win. 

ABOUT THE CARDINALS - Friday at 5 p.m.
William Jewell tied, 3-3, against UIndy and fell, 6-2, against Lewis (Ill.) this past weekend. Friday's game against the Greyhounds snapped a three-game shutout streak for the Cardinals. William Jewell's Megan Griffin scored a goal in the 89th minute to secure the tie. 

Junior Lux Sands leads the Cardinals with six goals, the same amount she scored in the entirety of last season. She is tied at the top of the GLVC leaderboard in goals. Sophomore Maddy Follmer has a team-high two assists. 

Junior Jenna Skeeters has started all eight games for the Cardinals at goalie. She has 33 saves this season with a 58.9% save percentage. Skeeters has one shutout this season. 

Head coach Emily Key is in her fourth season as the head coach for William Jewell. She has a 6-43-8 record entering this weekend with the Cardinals. 

ABOUT THE HAWKS - Sunday at noon
Rockhurst enters this weekend after picking up a pair of big wins last week. The Hawks defeated Illinois Springfield, 5-1, and UIndy, 8-0, this past weekend. Rockhurst plays Lewis on Friday before coming to Fayette on Sunday. 

Senior Anna Lantz leads the Hawks in total points with 13 (six goals, one assist). She's totaled 37 shots this season with 22 on goal. Her total goals, shots and shots on goal lead the GLVC this season.

Junior Caitlyn Smith and sophomore Julia Witt both have three goals this season. Karsen Koehler leads the team in assists with four. Freshman Lexi Matzke has added three assists. 

The Hawks have started three different goalies this season. Junior Ally Moore started this past weekend's games. She has a 90.9% save percentage with two goals allowed and a shutout in four total appearances.

Head coach Greg Herdlick has been the head coach for the women's soccer team since 1999, now in his 27th season. He has a record of 273-166-52 entering this weekend.
