Upper Iowa started its weekend of action in Romeoville, Ill. where they fell to Lewis in a 105-89 decision, giving the Flyers their sixth consecutive win as they improved to 5-1 in the league. The Peacocks shifted to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in the GLVC.
Nick Reid finished the game with 29 points, hitting four three-pointers and a perfect 9-9 from the free-throw line.
Jack Miller followed with 17 points on 8-18 shooting, while
Caleb Delzell contributed 13 points and
Kyle Hrncir added 10.
The Peacocks faced difficulty finding their rhythm in the first half, shooting just 34% from the field, while their opponents shot over 50%. UIU trailed by as much as 12 points early but narrowed the gap to 44-37 by halftime. Their comeback effort was sparked by four three-pointers, with three coming from
Nick Reid and one from
Jack Miller
Lewis capitalized on their dominance in the paint in the first session, scoring 26 points inside compared to just eight for Upper Iowa.
The home team came out strong in the second half, launching a 9-0 run to take a 53-37 lead with 18:27 left on the clock.
Upper Iowa found themselves down by as many as 25 (78-53).
UIU made several attempts to cut into the lead, but the Flyers consistently answered back, preventing the visitors from finding their flow
The Flyers were shooting bonus free throws at the 13-minute mark in the second half, and went 23-31 from the line for the contest, while the Peacocks netted a perfect 11-11.
The Peacocks continued to make a valiant effort in their comeback and cut the lead to 15, trailing 85-70 with six minutes left to play, but they were not able to contain the Flyers' offense. Lewis netted 56% from the floor and 53% from long range. Upper Iowa finished 43% from the field and 34% beyond the arc.
