Peacocks' Three-Point Barrage Powers Success Over Greyhounds

Men's basketball wrapped up the weekend with a 93-76 win over Indianapolis at Nicoson Hall, ending the Greyhounds' six-game win streak. The Peacocks improved to 4-3 in conference play and 10-5 overall, while Indy dropped to 9-6 on the season and 3-4 in the league.

Nick Reid foreshadowed his play for the afternoon as he put Upper Iowa ahead 6-0 to start the game behind two three-point splashes. He concluded the contest with 34 points behind 10-16 shooting (7-12 from three) and went 7-8 from the foul line. The forward added seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal.

The balanced attack from Peacock teammates complemented Reid's efforts. Kyle Hrncir put up 16 points and hauled in a career-high 17 rebounds while dishing out a game-high seven assists.

Gavin Hershberger knocked down 3-5 beyond the arc and totaled 11 points, while Ryan Heise added 10 points, respectively. Noah King collected five assists and chipped in nine points.

The Peacocks created their separation from long range as they connected on 14 three-pointers compared to the Greyhounds' four. UIU shot 41% from three (14-34) and 50% from the floor (31-62). Indianapolis mustered 40% from the field and 19% from downtown.

Upper Iowa held their largest lead of the contest at 24 (64-40) with 13:27 remaining in the second half after a William Kiburis three-pointer.

Following that play, Indianapolis went on an 11-2 run to trail 66-51, but a Reid three-pointer broke the streak and put the Peacocks back ahead 69-51.

UIU's lead diminished to 11 (71-59) with under eight minutes to play, but Reid hit another long-distance dagger at 7:30, and Hershberger followed suit one minute later to maintain a comfortable double-digit lead.

The Greyhounds attempted to creep back into the game as they were down 88-76 with 2:47 left to play, but Reid hit yet another dagger from distance to go ahead 91-76, forcing Indianapolis to foul.

Hershberger connected on two free throws to conclude the contest and put the Peacocks back in the win column.

Men's basketball has a pair of road games next weekend, as they take on Truman State on Thursday, Jan. 16, and Quincy on Saturday, Jan. 18.
