Upper Iowa competed in the Lakeland Scramble in Plymouth, Wis. where both of their wrestlers placed in the top three in their respective weight classes.

Junior Toyia Griffin dominated the competition as she won three consecutive matches by fall, as she defeated Katie Whelan (Augsburg), Julianna Onate (Joliet JC), and Jessica Komolafe (Joliet JC). In the semifinals, Griffin took down Teagan McKinnie (UW-Stevens Point) by a tech fall, as she didn't allow a point in the 10-0 victory. Griffin closed out the day by placing second overall with 15.5 team points, as Niyasia McCampbell (Lakeland) won by a 10-1 decision in the final round.

Freshman Makayla Matson also opened the day with a will by fall, as she took down Alex Carty of Iowa Lakes CC. Following a round two defeat, Matson bounced back with a win against Anika Stearns (Iowa Lakes CC) by fall, to reach the semifinals. Gisele Gallegos of Augsburg won by a 12-2 tech fall, in the semis, and Matson won her third place match against Kylie Hessenius (Iowa Lakes CC), to finish in third place with 13.0 team points.

The Peacocks will return to Iowa for the Mike Duroe Invite on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 9 a.m. Cornell College will be hosting the invite, which will take place in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
