Upper Iowa concluded their three-game homestand with a 1-1 tie with the Quincy Hawks.
Junior
Isabelle Wagner opened the game with a save in the right corner of the net, three minutes into action. She added her second save in the 14
th minute, diving to the side to catch Quincy's shot. Sophomore
Haylie Hutchinson recorded the Peacocks first shot of the game in the 28
th minute, but her attempt was saved by Julia Mincher.
After a relatively quiet 15 minutes of play to start the second half, Dache Johnson of the Hawks fired a shot on goal right down the middle, which was caught by Wagner. Sophomore
Maile Kehano added a strike on target just a minute later, which was also saved. In the 70
th minute, Johnson received a pass from Belle Dehner and her shot from the top left corner of the box sailed into the top right corner of the net to put the Hawks in the lead.
With the momentum on Quincy's side the Peacocks offense was able to set up a corner kick opportunity at the 82-minute mark. Freshman
Samantha Most crossed her pass in front of the goal and freshman
Kaydence Bonneau jumped in front of her defender, and headed the shot beyond the outstretched arms of Quincy's keeper and into the back of the net. Bonneau scored the first goal of her collegiate career in incredibly clutch fashion and Most picked up her second assist of the season. Neither team was able to pull ahead following Bonneau's late goal, and the Peacocks picked up their second tie in a row by a score of 1-1.
The Peacocks will travel to Missouri for the first time this season, to compete in consecutive games. UIU takes on Rockhurst on Friday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. and William Jewell on Sunday, Oct. 6 at noon.
