Upper Iowa was unable to continue their unbeaten streak on the road, falling by a score of 3-0 to the Rockhurst Hawks.
Rockhurst immediately recorded a shot on goal 35 minutes into action, and added another two shots on target within the first seven minutes. They were denied every time as junior
Isabelle Wagner picked up three saves. Sophomore
Maile Kehano added a shot on goal in the 16
th minute, which was saved by Rockhurst keeper Taylor James. In the 17
th minute, Wagner recorded her fourth save on the day in the bottom left corner, but her deflection ended up at the feet of Elle Kimball who fired her shot into the goal to boost Rockhurst into the lead. Freshman
Mikalyn Hidde added two consecutive shots on goal for the Peacocks in the 32
nd and 39
th minutes, which were both saved by James.
Sophomore
Jessica Ancheta recorded UIU's fourth shot on goal to open the second half and Rockhurst would respond with a shot on target two minutes later, where Wagner recorded her fifth and final save of the game. Following a shot by
Jordan Goldstein that sailed past the top right corner of the goal, the Hawks offense was able to get past the defense as Olivia Schwarzen scored their second goal of the game. Schwarzen would later pick up an assist in the 87
th minute with Elizabeth Mertzlufft scoring Rockhurst's third goal to seal the win.
The Peacocks will head to Liberty, Mo. to take on William Jewell on Sunday, Oct. 6 at noon.
