Peacocks Open GLVC Play with Home and Away Games

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK MEN'S SOCCER… Upper Iowa kicks off conference play with a road game against Lewis and a home matchup with Indianapolis. The Peacocks face Lewis on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Romeoville, Ill. before taking on Indianapolis on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m.

EARLY-SEASON RECAP… The Peacocks have started the season with an 0-2-1 record. They opened the year with a 2-2 tie against Roosevelt where senior Daniel Pranger scored a last-minute goal to tie the game on an assist from junior Florian Deick and fifth year Daigo Adachi. Pranger also added an assist in the game and he has played all 90 minutes in every matchup on the year. Junior Emir Basar assisted on Pranger's goal and he also scored his first goal on the season this past weekend against St. Cloud State. Freshman Julian Mesen's first shot of his collegiate career found the back of the net against SCSU and junior Fabio Bender scored the Peacocks first goal of the season versus Roosevelt.
 
LEWIS PREVIEW… The Flyers began the season with a loss to Purdue Northwest and have followed that up with three consecutive ties. Goalkeeper Sebastian Doppelhofer has posted a save percentage of 80.0%, picking up 20 saves on the season. Forward Max Widlund recorded a goal and an assist against Northern Michigan and midfielder Carson Czosnyka also has both a goal and an assist on the year. Forward Godwin Asore scored his first goal of the season against Quincy and defender Arturs Gorodnickis added the game-tying goal against Parkside. The defensive duo of Justin Darlage and Nicholas Rogalski have each played in all 90 minutes of every game this season.

INDIANAPOLIS PREVIEW… The Greyhounds have opened the season with a 1-2 mark and are coming off a 1-0 victory over Truman State. Midfielder Alvaro Sanchez has scored UIndy's lone goal of the season which came in the 83rd minute of their matchup with TSU. Goalkeeper Ionas Giovanidis made his collegiate debut in the victory, posting a shutout while recording one save. Midfielder Vincent Montoya and defender Bobby Turner have appeared in all 270 minutes of game time on the season and both players have recorded one shot on goal.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS… Upper Iowa will stay in Fayette for consecutive matches. The Peacocks host Truman State on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Quincy on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2:30 p.m.
