Upper Iowa dropped to the Bemidji State Beavers by a score of 5-1 to conclude their homestand.
The Beavers got off to a hot start as Katrina Barthelt scored a minute into the match and Sydney Sutherland propelled the team to a 2-0 lead in the 15
th minute. Sophomore
Maile Kehano nearly scored in the 19
th minute as she fired a shot toward the left corner of the goal, which was tipped to the side by Sonia Alfieri. Junior
Isabelle Wagner recorded her first save in the 27
th minute, stopping the shot which was fired down the middle. She added another two minutes before halftime, following the Beavers third goal of the game which was scored by Madeline Davey.
Bemidji State added two more goals in the 55
th and 69
th minutes, extending the lead to five. Kehano fired another shot on target in the 78
th minute, which was saved, but she refused to be denied in the final minutes, scoring with a shot in the top left corner of the goal in the 87
th minute. Freshman
Samantha Most assisted on the play, and she finished the game appearing in all 90 minutes of action.
The Peacocks will travel to Romeoville, Ill. to open the GLVC season on the road against Lewis on Friday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. They will then host Indianapolis on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 12 p.m.
