UIU baseball dropped their first game of the series against Missouri S&T in a 7-2 decision. The Peacocks collected six hits and two RBIs while the Miners tallied eight hits and seven RBIs.
Gunnar Wicklund paced the offense for UIU after registering three hits and two RBIs.
Ethan Sawyer added two hits and
Cael Luzum contributed one.
S&T put up one run in the first inning and another four in the second inning, commanding a 5-0 lead that held for the first four frames.
In the fifth inning, the home team added another two runs to their score, jumping out to a 7-2 advantage.
The Peacocks ignited their offense in the eighth inning as they recorded two runs behind three hits, closing the gap to 7-2.
UIU had two on base in the ninth inning, but was unable to bring anyone else around, sealing the 7-2 decision in favor of the Miners.
Brady Stevens (2-2) threw for five innings, allowing seven hits and seven earned runs, while striking out five batters and walking three.
Gabe Olson pitched three innings of relief, surrendering one hit and zero runs while ringing up three batters and walking five.
