Vetter Pitches Nine-Inning Shutout in Series Split

The Peacocks split their series on the road with the Missouri S&T Miners as they pulled off a thrilling 1-0 victory over nine innings in game one, before the Miners took game two by a score of 8-0.

Game One
Taylor Sedam recorded the first hit of the tap at the top of the second inning, as she hit her first of two doubles in the game down the left field line. With two outs, Bridgewater singled to second base, but the Miners were able to force a ground out to get out of the inning.

Delaney Vetter struck out her first two batters of the day in the second, and she closed out the third inning by striking out the batter swinging. Vetter added consecutive strikeouts at the bottom of the fifth and she struck out two more batters swinging in the bottom of the seventh, which sent the game to extra innings.

Elliott Pomeroy hit the first single in extra innings, on a line drive down the left field line, giving her two hits on the day. With one out at the top of the ninth, Rae VanMilligan hit a single up the middle. Laila Pelds added a double out to right field, which advanced VanMilligan to third and put two runners in scoring position for the Peacocks. Sedam came through in the clutch as she hit a single out to left center field, which brought VanMilligan home to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead.

With one out and a runner on first at the top of the ninth, the Peacocks forced the Miners into a ground out double play, which secured their 1-0 victory.

Delaney Vetter pitched a complete game for the Peacocks, striking out eight batters while allowing only two hits against 35 batters faced.

Taylor Sedam put together one of her best games of the season, hitting 3-4 with two doubles and the game winning RBI.

Game Two
Ari Charles started the game with a single to left field at the top of the first. Missouri S&T also recorded a single during their first at bat, before Abby Buckman struck out consecutive batters to close out the first inning.

The Miners opened the third by reaching first on a fielding error, which they took advantage of by hitting an RBI double to right center field. They built on this momentum throughout the fourth inning, where they scored six runs on five singles and a double. With a runner in scoring position at the bottom of the fifth, Missouri S&T recorded an RBI single to left center which secured an 8-0 win in game two.

Abby Buckman struck out three batters on the day and Serah Shafer was walked during all three of her at bats.

The Peacocks will head to St. Louis, Mo. for their final double header of the season as they take on Maryville on Sunday, Apr. 28 at 12 and 2 p.m.
