Peacocks Drop Two in Season Finale

The Peacocks closed out the season on the road against Maryville, dropping to the Saints 15-11 in game one and 8-2 in game two.

Game One
The Saints opened the game with a three run first inning. Laila Pelds led off the second, and she scored the Peacocks first run of the day on a homer over the left field wall. Taylor Sedam followed this up by hitting a homer of her own, which also sailed out to left field. Kylie Doty reached first on an error, and she tied the game at 3-3 as she scored on another error. With the bases loaded, Ari Charles hit a sacrifice fly out to right field and she picked up an RBI as Hannah Bridgewater scored on the play. Serah Shafer then added a single down the right side which brought Addyson Alber home to give the Peacocks a 5-3 lead.

Maryville opened the second with an RBI double to right center and they added an RBI triple to tie the game at five runs apiece. They scored two more runs to close out the inning, picking up run the seventh run of the game by stealing home.

Doty singled up the middle to start the third and the Peacocks loaded the bases as Bridgewater and Alber were both walked. Elliott Pomeroy hit an RBI single to right center field which brought Doty home. Following a force out at home, Serah Shafer hit a single to center field where she recorded two RBIs as Pomeroy and Alber picked up runs to give the Peacocks an 8-7 lead.

The Peacocks would maintain the lead through the top of the fourth, but Maryville put together a six-run fourth inning to take a 13-8 lead. Pomeroy hit a single to right center at the top of the fifth, before Charles doubled down the left field line to put two runners in scoring position for UIU. Shafer recorded another RBI as she hit a single down the right side which advanced Charles to third and brought Pomeroy home. With one out, Rae VanMilligan hit a two RBI single with Charles and Shafer scoring on the play to cut the Saints lead to 13-11.

Upper Iowa picked up two quick outs at the bottom of the sixth, but the Saints hit a two-run homer to ice the game by a score of 15-11.

Delaney Vetter struck out four batters through three innings pitched. Serah Shafer hit 3-5 on the day with one run and four RBIs. Elliott Pomeroy went 2-3 at the plate and she was one of three Peacocks to score two runs, alongside Addyson Alber and Kylie Doty.

Game Two
Sedam recorded the first hit of game two, which came on a single to right field at the top of the second. With two outs, Alber hit an RBI double to give the Peacocks an early 1-0 lead as Sedam scored on the play.

Maryville hit a triple to left center at the bottom of the third and they tied the game on a sacrifice fly. They were able to take a 2-1 lead at the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo home run over the left center field wall.

Charles hit a double out to right field early into the sixth inning. With two outs, VanMilligan singled to right center field where she brought Charles home to tie the game at two apiece.

The Saints put together a dominant performance in the bottom of the sixth, as they scored six runs while hitting seven singles and a three-run homer. The Peacocks were unable to mount a comeback at the top of the seventh, giving Maryville an 8-2 win.
