Tritons Take Two Against Peacocks in St. Louis

Upper Iowa baseball dropped two games to the University of Missouri-St. Louis on day one of their weekend action. Both offenses were in full force during game one, as UMSL came out on top in a 21-16 decision. The Peacocks tallied 13 hits while launching five home runs. The Tritons notched 19 hits and tattooed two long bombs. The bats slowed down in game two as Missouri St. Louis was victorious in a 9-2 final, where UIU gathered six hits in comparison to UMSL's ten. 
 
The two teams will face off in a doubleheader tomorrow with the first pitch set for 12 p.m.
 
GAME ONE UIU-16, UMSL-21 (9 INN.)
 
Justin Baehler collected three hits with two home runs in game one and added five RBIs. Gabe Bombardier also sent two over the fence, while Brock Zimmer tallied one. 
 
The ball game had a one-run differential after the conclusion of the sixth inning, the Peacocks trailing 17-16. Neither team scored again until the UMSL offense stretched out their lead in the top of the ninth as they brought in four more runs to go up 21-16. 
 
Upper Iowa had the bases loaded with one out in the seventh inning, but were unable to put any on the scoreboard. 
 
Both teams got off to a hot start as the Tritons gathered four runs in the first inning while the Peacocks recorded six. They each saw an inning where they brought in seven runs, hiking up the score. 
 
Isaiah Maes (2-4) started on the bump for Upper Iowa, allowing 11 hits and 11 earned runs. Gabe Olson, Nick Hartje and Marcus Champagne each spent time on the mound in relief. 
 
GAME TWO UIU-2, UMSL-9 (7 INN.)
 
In game two, Gunnar Wicklund led the team at the plate as he tallied two hits, including one home run. The Tritons collected four doubles, one triple and one home run. 
 
The Tritons saw bursts of scoring throughout the contest as they scored one in the first, five runs in the fifth and another three in the seventh. 
 
The game was a close 1-1 draw after Wicklund's long bomb over the center field fence in the bottom of the third frame. 
 
Missouri-St. Louis went ahead 6-1 after the fifth inning where they saw four hits. UIU brought in their final run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth after Bryce Hall reached base on a fielder's choice and knocked in Bombardier. 
 
UMSL finished strong as they brought in another three runs in the top of the seventh, sealing game two in a 9-2 decision over UIU.

Paxton Gravlin (1-1) spent four innings on the mound, surrendering three hits and three earned runs. Jason Jennerjohn and Landon Stoppelmoor both pitched in relief for the Peacocks.
