Peacocks Conclude Home Season Versus Flyers on Senior Day

The Peacocks were unable to best the #2-seed in the GLVC as the Lewis Flyers took game one 8-1 before winning game two 1-0. Prior to the doubleheader, Upper Iowa honored their seven seniors: Ari Charles, Laila Pelds, Rae VanMilligan, Hannah Bridgewater, Abby Buckman, Rylee McGonigle and Alli Schaffer as they played their final game at Eischeid Softball Complex.

Game One
The Flyers put together a three-run first inning, highlighted by a two RBI single to left field with two outs. UIU opened the bottom of the second with a single to second base by Laila Pelds. Taylor Sedam added a double out to center field, and the Peacocks scored their first run as the Flyers committed a throwing error to third base.

Following consecutive walks, Lewis hit a two RBI triple out to center field, before scoring their sixth run on an error at the top of the third. They added another two runs in the fourth, which pushed their lead to 8-1. Rae VanMilligan recorded the Peacocks last hit of the game, on a double to left field at the bottom of the fourth inning.

Delaney Vetter pitched a complete game for the Peacocks where she threw 177 pitches and struck out four batters on the day.

Game Two
Lewis opened game two with a double to center field, before following that up with a single on a bunt. They scored their first run of the game on a ground out, before the Peacocks forced consecutive outs to end the first.

Abby Buckman pitched a strikeout to start the second, and she added her second strikeout of the day at the top of the third. During her first at bat of the day, Reagan Church launched a hit out to right field, picking up a double as the outfielder was unable to make the jumping catch.

Serah Shafer added a single up the middle in the bottom of the fourth, but the Flyers were able to force an out on a fielder's choice before closing out the inning on a pop up. Lewis hit a single to left field in the top of the fifth, before adding a single out to left field. With one out and runners on second and third, Buckman came through in the clutch as she struck out consecutive batters swinging, to close out the inning.

Buckman pitched her sixth strikeout in the top of the seventh, and the Peacocks forced a ground out to close out the top half of the inning. The Flyers were able to force three quick outs in the bottom of the seventh, as they squeaked by with a 1-0 victory in game two.

The Peacocks will close out the regular season on the road with double headers against Missouri S&T on Saturday, Apr. 27 and Maryville, Sunday, Apr. 28. Both match-ups are set to begin at 12 and 2 p.m.
